Founded in 1983 by Gerd R. Lang, Chronoswiss, headquartered in Lucerne, is a brand with a clear specialization. Inspired by historical precision clocks (where time indicators were separated for precise reading), the brand introduced its first wristwatch with a regulator display in 1987. Since then, regulators have become the hallmark of Chronoswiss. Now, the brand introduces a new model with a modern design in a bold tone-on-tone color scheme - the Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Black Ice.
Introduced two years ago, the Open Gear ReSec model (for retrograde seconds) adds playful retrograde indication to the regulator display. At the “6 o’clock” position, instead of the traditional seconds indicator, the seconds hand moves along a 120° arc for 30 seconds and then swiftly returns to zero. The Open Gear design is characterized by a raised, floating display that creates an attractive sense of depth. This is a hybrid construction of 42 components, which also serves as a modular plate on which the bridges, screws, wheels, and jewels for the regulator and retrograde seconds mechanism are mounted.
The new Open Gear ReSec Black Ice model, with a black-on-black dial, case, and strap, is released in a limited edition of 50 watches. The dial features a black sparkling granular finish. The use of luminescent material for the hands and indices improves readability in all conditions, particularly thanks to markers made from luminescent blocks. The individual number of the limited series is positioned at “3 o’clock.”

The signature cylindrical case is made of stainless steel with black DLC coating. It has a diameter of 44 mm, a trademark onion crown, straight lugs, and a knurled side. The water resistance is 100 meters, which is quite comfortable for such watches.

This release of Chronoswiss ReSec, like all previous models, is equipped with the caliber C. 301, a significantly modified ETA 2895. The regulator and retrograde seconds module were fully developed by Chronoswiss and are produced in-house. The power reserve of this automatic movement, with a frequency of 4 Hz, is 42 hours when fully wound. The retrograde second allows for precise time setting. When the watch is turned over, you can see the case back decorated with Geneva stripes, mother-of-pearl, and a skeletonized rotor with black coating.
The Chronoswiss Open Gear ReSec Black Ice watch is presented on a black neoprene strap (hand-stitched on a leather base). It is secured on the wrist with a deployant clasp. The price is set at 9,900 Swiss Francs or 10,000 Euros. For more information and online orders, visit www.chronoswiss.com.
