A new release in honor of the Bond series, not seen in a specific British spy film, but in the video game 007 First Light featuring a young James Bond.
Since 1995, Omega has regularly released special watches seen on screens in James Bond's adventures. This time it's a bit different. While everyone speculates on who will be the new Bond, the brand has released a new product in honor of the Bond series, which will appear not in the next part of the famous film franchise, but in the themed video game 007 First Light.
The watch was released simultaneously with the game's launch, which will hit stores on May 27. The game, developed by IO Interactive (creators of the Hitman series) in collaboration with Amazon MGM Studios, presents an exciting original story of 26-year-old James Bond. At the center of the missions is the OMEGA Seamaster Diver 300M Chronograph, equipped with a hacking device capable of disabling electronic equipment, and a powerful laser strap, making it an indispensable tool for players aiming to achieve 007 status.
Interesting fact: this is the first chronograph in the line of Seamaster models dedicated to the Bond series. This model is based on a 2019 novelty, i.e., a watch released a year after the update of the classic Seamaster Diver 300M model with time and date indication.
In chronograph format, the model has a 44 x 17 mm case and almost 53 mm in length. It is made of matte-polished steel and has all the design features of the Seamaster collection: lyre-shaped lugs, curved protective elements of the crown, a helium valve at the 10 o'clock mark, and buttons made of black polished ceramic. The case is equipped with sapphire crystals on both sides. As a true diver, the novelty promises solid water resistance of 300 meters.
Another classic design detail is the unidirectional bezel with a polished black ceramic insert. The insert features a 60-minute scale filled with white enamel. The dial made of polished ceramic still features laser engraving with a wave pattern. The highlight of the dial is the 12-hour counter at the 3 o'clock mark. Due to the PVD coating, the metal on the counter resembles bronze and gold.
The same coating is used for the central second hand of the chronograph, while all other hands and indices are coated with rhodium and filled with white Super-LumiNova luminous compound. The design of the dial is completed by the red inscription "Seamaster" right under the Omega logo.
Under the case back with the 007 First Light logo is the in-house caliber 9900, which Omega uses in many other models. This is a movement with a column wheel and vertical clutch, which thanks to 2 barrels provides a comfortable 60-hour power reserve. The mechanism, equipped with a co-axial escapement and certified as a chronometer by the Federal Institute of Metrology (METAS), is decorated in the classic Omega style.
The watch is offered on a polyamide strap with alternating black and gray stripes, complemented by a beige stripe in the center. The chosen color scheme is inspired by the visual universe and design elements of 007 First Light. Alternatively, owners can choose one of six other NATO straps, available separately in the Omega accessories collection. Each is modeled after various strap versions available in the game.
The novelty comes in a gift box as a special but not limited edition. The approximate cost of the watch excluding taxes is CHF7,300 or $9,400.
