A yellow gold case model from around 1987 became the most expensive Cartier wristwatch ever sold at auction.
Last week, another watch session of the Sotheby’s auction took place in Hong Kong. The auction marathon, which lasted about 13 hours, concluded with a record result - $52.9 million.

The highlight of the auction was the Cartier London Crash watch in a yellow gold case, released around 1987. It is believed to be one of three such models produced that year as a special order. After 9 minutes of phone bidding, the watch sold for HKD 15,616,000 (~$1,993,539), becoming the most expensive Cartier wristwatch in auction history.

The auction in Hong Kong also featured a historic collection of vintage models "Shapes of Cartier". It included 82 watch pieces. The entire collection was sold for seven times the initial estimate. Notably, the Cartier London Tank J.J.C. Allongée sold for a record amount (HKD 5.76 million or ~$730,000), and the Cartier London Tank Normale (HKD 4.6 million or $587,000).
