Founded in 2010, Cyrus is among the contemporary, innovative representatives of the independent watch scene. Its watches, most of which feature bold, modern designs and signature cushion-shaped cases, often have three-dimensional architecture with unconventional layouts - most of them are developed by Jean-François Mojon of Chronode. After the recently introduced Klepcys GMT Retrograde with its daring take on travel watches, the brand returns with something special and impressive in terms of mechanics - a watch featuring not one, but two monopusher chronographs, fully independent and operated from a single dial. Sounds complicated? It is, but let's explain what this new Cyrus Klepcys Dice Double Independent Chronograph Evolution is all about.

The name "Dice" stands for Double Independent Chronograph Evolution, meaning Cyrus and Mojon have developed an evolution of the traditional chronograph. These innovative watches are equipped with dual chronographs capable of measuring two short time intervals independently or synchronously. However, let's clarify something: this should not be confused with a rattrapante or split-seconds chronograph, which is a single chronograph complication where two hands track the time of two events that start simultaneously but end at different times or indicate an intermediate elapsed time. The first report of a double independent chronograph dates back to 1873 when watchmaker Arnold Frankfeld registered his "double stop" mechanism development at the New York Patent Office. Since then, this rare complication has not been encountered.

The idea for these watches arose from Cyrus's partnership with the "Uralkali Haas Formula 1 Team". As Mojon explains: "In many sports, it is often important to measure elapsed time with different start times. This occurs in races like marathons or biathlons, where athletes do not cross the starting line at the same time, or even in Formula 1, where two drivers start at different times during race tests (...) A similar situation arises in car rallies, where two independent chronographs are commonly used." With this in mind, Mojon "simply" had to find a solution to combine two chronographs into one mechanism. The challenge was accepted and accomplished.

The Cyrus Klepcys Dice is a watch where much of the drama unfolds on the dial side. The dual chronograph module is positioned on the dial side and visible through the sapphire glass, providing a clear view. The idea of two chronographs involves two sets of wheels, springs, levers, and of course, two column wheels, each activating one of the chronographs - which is why the watch could be mistaken for a rattrapante.

To ensure optimal readability, Cyrus uses two different color schemes throughout the watch case - on the hands, crowns, column wheels, and respective tracks. One chronograph uses red, the other blue. One is traditionally positioned: hands and column wheel at 12 o'clock, with the monopusher in the crown at 3 o'clock. The other is positioned in reverse: hands and column wheel at 6 o'clock, with the monopusher at 9 o'clock. You will also notice that the starting points of the hands (for the central seconds hand and the 30-minute counter), 60 marks, if you will, are also mirrored. The rest of the display is classic, with central hours and minutes and a small seconds hand at 9 o'clock.

The impressive chronograph mechanism is executed in typical Cyrus fashion: modern colors and angular shapes, yet traditional technical solutions and finishing. A view through the sapphire dial reveals a complex architectural design, leaving no doubt about the complexity of this watch and the unique complication inside. Under the sapphire caseback, the base movement is visible - an automatic caliber with a frequency of 4 Hz and a power reserve of 60 hours. The caseback finishing is also contemporary: bridges with NAC treatment, a sunray relief pattern, and a combination of satin-brushed and polished surfaces.
