Key Takeaways

  • NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST features exclusive Kenissi movements.
  • The series supports Sherpa families with 10% of sales proceeds.
  • Available in three dial options with versatile strap choices.

The allure of having an in-house or exclusive movement is perhaps greater than ever in today’s luxury watch market. The brand cachet associated with an exclusive movement is a powerful marketing tool, and while many large, well-known brands boast exclusive powertrains, among younger brands this practice is far less common.

This rarity is one of the primary reasons for the rapid success of the Swiss independent brand NORQAIN, which has established a close partnership with movement manufacturer Kenissi, associated with Tudor, to create unique and exclusive movements for NORQAIN models. The Kenissi-made NN20/1 “manufacture” movement has become a best-seller among NORQAIN enthusiasts, and in its latest release, the brand is offering this chronometer movement for the first time in its Adventure line with a diver’s style. The new NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST series combines the brand's modern sports aesthetic with the impressive capabilities of the exclusive movement and helps support the families of Sherpas who have died while climbing in the Himalayas.

NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST watch with stainless steel case

The 40mm 316L stainless steel case of the NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST line is a noticeably more compact reimagining of the standard 42mm Adventure Sport design. Instead of the broad-shouldered and thoroughly modern profile of the Adventure Sport, the Adventure NEVEREST presents a slightly more vintage impression on the wrist. While the long tapering lugs, vertical case sides, and bold square crowns are foundational elements of diver’s watches, NORQAIN gives its interpretation a sense of visual clarity with a smooth polished chamfer neatly separating the fully matte case. The texture of the exterior knurled bezel and engraved charcoal-gray ceramic insert (in a limited series of two-tone models, it is made of black ceramic and 18K 5N red gold) complement the clean and functional aesthetic.

However, at 12.6mm thick, the case is noticeably larger when viewed from certain angles, and the signature engraved NORQAIN plaque at “9 o’clock” remains a divisive element. The Adventure NEVEREST model adds a sapphire display caseback to showcase the exclusive Kenissi-produced movement, while water resistance has been increased from 100 meters in the standard Adventure Sport model to 200 meters suitable for diving.

NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST glacier dial with red second hand

NORQAIN offers the Adventure NEVEREST with three dial options. The most striking of these is undoubtedly the “glacier dial” with a deep, organic diagonal ribbed pattern inspired by the treacherous ice crevasses that dot the sides of Everest. The matte white texture contrasts with the mirror-polished sharp baton hands and beveled faceted indices applied by hand, while the bright fiery red color of the second hand and the “Chronometer” script at 6 o’clock prevent the combination from appearing too monochromatic.

The absence of a date window enhances the stark effect of the nature-inspired dial, allowing the unique texture of the dial to play continuously and maintaining a finely-tuned visual weight distribution across the dial. The other two models in the Adventure NEVEREST series feature the Adventure Sport’s herringbone dial texture, presented in rich hunter green and black. The black dial is only available in the limited series two-tone Adventure NEVEREST, with dial hardware and an applied “12 o'clock” emblem in red gold matching the bezel.

Despite some similarity to the Tudor MT5621 movement, also created by Kenissi, including an almost identical balance bridge assembly, the automatic NN20/1 “manufacture” movement of the NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST series is truly exclusive to the brand. Created and developed in partnership with Kenissi and first appearing in the Independence 20 series in 2020, the NN20/1 is a thoroughly modern movement with corresponding specifications.

Certified as a COSC chronometer with high accuracy and an impressive 70-hour power reserve at 28,800 vibrations per hour, the NN20/1 is undoubtedly impressive from a technical standpoint. In terms of finishing, however, the NN20/1 is minimal: a signed “sunray” rotor is placed over nearly completely matte plates and bridges.

NORQAIN equips all three models in the Adventure NEVEREST series with three strap options. Our “glacier white” model comes with the most casual and unusual of the three options - a gray MN-style fabric strap with a pair of accenting black stripes. On the wrist, it gives the design a rugged military-inspired charm, effectively enhancing it while harmoniously fitting into the overall design.

The Adventure NEVEREST watches also come with a black rubber strap with a clear texture, and for a more striking look on the wrist, a signature stainless steel “oyster” style bracelet with distinctive polished and articulated central links is offered.

Thanks to a more compact design, an extremely capable exclusive movement, and support for a noble cause, the new NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST watches are a substantial and charismatic step forward for the brand’s most accessible line. 10 percent of the proceeds from the sale of each NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST model will go to the Butterfly Help Project, a Nepalese charity that helps the children of deceased Himalayan Sherpas attend school.

While both stainless steel Adventure NEVEREST variants are serial models, the two-tone variant will be released in a limited edition of only 100 pieces. All three models in the NORQAIN Adventure NEVEREST line are now available at authorized dealers, with prices starting at $3,240 for the “glacier white” model, while the green dial variant and the two-tone variant have a starting price of $3,180 and $4,680, respectively. More information can be found on the brand’s website.
