After a change in ownership, Fortis has diligently worked on restructuring its collections and solidifying its reputation as a producer of reliable and practical tool watches. In the past two to three years, the revamped Fortis company has been releasing new and interesting collections under three different directions - Space, Sky, and Sea - primarily with the introduction of the new Flieger collection. Now, Fortis is reviving the next historically significant name, Marinemaster, with proper tool-like technical specifications and a wide range of options. Here is the new Fortis Marinemaster M-40 collection.
The Marinemaster collection has always been closely associated with aquatic environments. The name originated in the 1950s and has since been used to denote the brand's water-resistant watches. For many years, this name adorned watches intended for use in aquatic environments, but not necessarily for diving. Without delving too deeply into this topic (pardon the pun), let's take a look at what the new Fortis Marinemaster M-40 model is all about.
The new Marinemaster collection was created as a watch that can be used anywhere and everywhere, to withstand anything you throw at it. Presented in a 40mm case made of recycled stainless steel, the new Fortis Marinemaster M-40 comes in four colors: Serenity Blue, Rockstone Grey, Woodpecker Green, and Snow White. Each model is available with either a matching color rubber strap or a stainless steel 'Block' bracelet. The bidirectional Gear Bezel, as Fortis calls it, is equipped with a luminescent strip and a 60-minute scale.
The dial of the Fortis Marinemaster M-40 is adorned with a pattern of square Fortis 'O' letters. Large applied hour markers are filled with Super-LumiNova luminous material. Bold sword-shaped hands indicate the hours and minutes, accompanied by a lollipop-shaped seconds hand. An outer minute track and a date window at the 3 o'clock position complete the dial.
The Fortis Marinemaster M-40 watches are equipped with the UW-30 Performance movement based on the Sellita SW200-1. This reliable workhorse beats at 4 Hz and has a power reserve of up to 38 hours. It also features an anti-magnetic Glucydur balance wheel. The movement is hidden beneath a solid case back. Water resistance is up to 300 meters thanks to a triple gasket system in the screw-down crown. Thus, although the Fortis Marinemaster watches are not advertised as true diving watches, they are undoubtedly very capable models for underwater activities.
The Fortis Marinemaster M-40 watches come on a rubber strap matching the dial color, tucked under the case for compactness on the wrist. The strap surface is adorned with the Fortis-O pattern and is secured on the wrist with a pin buckle. A stainless steel Block bracelet with a sliding clasp for quick adjustments on the go is also available. The rubber strap version is priced at 2,950 euros, while the stainless steel bracelet version increases the price to 3,300 euros.
