Just a few months after Watches and Wonders 2026, Grand Seiko launches its updated Evolution 9 collection.
The collection includes five new models with Spring Drive movements and four models with high-frequency Hi-Beat movements. This line is one of the key collections in the brand's catalog, so we took a detailed look at each of the updated models.
Features of the Evolution 9 Collection
The Evolution 9 collection captures the essence of Grand Seiko. The watches are not overtly sporty, nor are they too formal for everyday wear. These watches are the core of the brand's range. Models like the White Birch and its counterparts with different dial colors and textures have already gained popularity. Therefore, it's logical that Grand Seiko continues to refine this line.
What's New in the Updated Models
The new Evolution 9 Hi-Beat models will be available from October 2026. The case design and some dials retain their recognizability. Cases are made from Ever-Brilliant Steel or High-Intensity Titanium. However, not all dial colors are available in both materials. The cases are standardized: 40 mm in diameter, 11.7 mm thick.
All four models feature bracelets that taper more prominently towards the clasp. A new feature is the clasp with a button and tool-free micro-adjustment in three positions with 2 mm steps. Each watch has a box-shaped sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating, a screw-down case back with a transparent window, a screw-down crown, and water resistance up to 10 bar (100 m).

Review of the Updated Evolution 9 Hi-Beat Models
The new models use the proven automatic caliber 9SA5, introduced in 2020. This is a high-frequency movement with a frequency of 36,000 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 80 hours. Accuracy is stated at +5/-3 seconds per day. The caliber is installed in four new models.
- SLGH029 - High-Intensity Titanium case with a 40 mm diameter and bracelet made of the same material. The dial is black with a Black Birch pattern, featuring characteristic faceted polished hands and diamond-cut applied indices. A distinctive feature is the white date numbers on a black background at the '3 o'clock' position with a metal frame, unlike other models with black numbers on a white background.
- SLGH031 - White Birch model in an Ever-Brilliant Steel case with a blue central seconds hand. It differs with a dial texture inspired by the Shizukuishi forests, unlike Spring Drive, which is inspired by the Shinshu region.
- SLBGH033 - Green dial reflecting sunlight in white birch forests. Depending on the viewing angle, the dial changes shade from bright to dark and mysterious.
- SLGH035 - Light blue dial inspired by the Iwai River in Iwate Prefecture. The color is usually used for smaller Grand Seiko models, but it looks great here. The dial texture mimics the valley's rock formations, making the model visually unique.

Pricing of the Evolution 9 Hi-Beat Models
The titanium model SLGH029 costs €11,700, which matches the price of a similar version with Spring Drive. The steel models are priced slightly lower - €10,400. This positions them in the segment between the steel version of the Rolex Datejust 41 and the white gold model with a fluted bezel - a competitive yet familiar level for Grand Seiko.

Final Conclusions
The four new Evolution 9 Hi-Beat models showcase the best qualities of Grand Seiko: minimalist design, confident forms, and impressive dials. Despite the recognizable style, the variety of colors and textures, as well as the improved bracelet, make these watches a versatile choice for everyday use.
