The Longines Spirit Collection, introduced in 2020, pays tribute to pioneers who conquered the air, land, and sea relying on their Longines timepieces. While blending distinctive Longines and aviation design elements, this vintage-inspired line is not a mere reproduction but was created from scratch to honor a rich heritage. The collection includes 40- and 42-millimeter models with time and date features, as well as a chronograph, all equipped with a chronometer-certified movement. After classic options with silver, black, and blue dials, date and time models are now available in green.
The color green is the new blue, which was the new black, and it is now featured on the Longines Spirit watch dial in a dark khaki shade paired with a matte sandblasted finish. Alongside classic silver, black, and blue dial versions, this allows Longines to introduce another color with a sporty yet elegant touch to the collection. It harmonizes perfectly with the model's vintage style, inspired by instrument watches.
Despite the new color and finish, the dial remains true to the design of previous versions. A raised minute track with a polished metal ring frames the applied Arabic numerals. Additionally, the logo and five stars are applied, indicating the precision and uniqueness of the mechanism. The elongated hour and minute hands are filled with beige luminescent material for optimal readability, and the tip of the second hand is painted red. Overall, the attention to detail and sense of depth truly draw attention.
Like other Spirit models with time and date, the green dial is available in 40mm or 42mm sizes. The stainless steel case is crafted in a retro style featuring sharp lines and a relatively large raised bezel. The matte surfaces are accentuated by neatly polished bevels. The large knurled crown operates smoothly, is screw-down, and offers water resistance of 10 ATM or 100 meters - pleasing for everyday sports watches. Given the relatively long lugs, the Spirit wears slightly larger on the wrist than its diameter suggests. But with two available sizes, the model will be comfortable for most wrists.
Six screws secure the massive engraved case back. Underneath the case back lies the automatic Longines caliber L888.4 (also known as ETA A31.L11), which displays hours, minutes, seconds, and date. Exclusive to the brand, this movement is a notable differentiator compared to many watches at this price level. The movement measures 25.60mm and operates at 25,200 vibrations per hour, with a silicon balance spring providing protection against magnetic fields. Additionally, its accuracy is COSC-certified by the Swiss Official Chronometer Testing Institute. Finally, the watch is equipped with a healthy 72-hour power reserve.
The Longines Spirit watches are offered on a beige calfskin leather strap with white stitching, featuring a pin buckle, or on a stainless steel bracelet with three links and a triple folding clasp.
