Gerald Charles Masterlink Perpetual Calendar watch with fume dial

Geneva has become home to Gerald Charles, which also presented a model that fits this style of luxury watches - the Gerald Charles Masterlink Perpetual Calendar. This model debuted in early 2026. At that time, WatchTested took a detailed look at two titanium versions: the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar with a Fume Dial, pictured here, and the Sapphire Dial with an open, more decorative dial. Today, we present a full review of the version with a solid fume dial - the Gerald Charles Masterlink Perpetual Calendar ML11.0-TNBR-TNSB-BR00SR-TNDP.

The History of the Gerald Charles Brand and the Masterlink Case Design

The modern Gerald Charles brand essentially started with the release of the Maestro case. This case was industrially realized in collaboration with designer Octavio Garcia, and the original Maestro shape belongs to the legendary watch designer Gerald Genta. Gerald Charles was Gerald Genta's own brand - this was detailed in previous reviews on WatchTested. The Masterlink case was created based on the asymmetrical Maestro case.

Detailed view of the Gerald Charles Masterlink case design

It adapted the case concept for a model with an integrated bracelet. The Masterlink case for three-hand models has a diameter of 38 mm, a thickness of about 8 mm, and fits well on the wrist. The Masterlink Perpetual Calendar case is slightly larger - 40 mm in diameter and 10 mm thick, yet it remains comfortable for daily wear. Unusually for watches in this class, the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar is equipped with a screw-down crown and provides water resistance up to 100 meters. The dial and the case back are protected by sapphire crystals with multi-layer anti-reflective coating.

Design and Concept of the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar by Octavio Garcia

Designer Octavio Garcia was tasked with creating a watch that would be comfortable, stylish, original, easily readable, and give the impression of being expensive. At the same time, Gerald Charles provided the opportunity to develop a unique mechanical movement for the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar, which allowed the company to achieve a high level of detail and sophistication. Garcia was able to unite the movement, case, and dial into a harmonious timepiece. What is the result?

Marketing image of the Gerald Charles Masterlink Perpetual Calendar

Initially, seeing the watch in marketing images, I did not find them particularly attractive or harmonious in proportions. Almost all Maestro and Masterlink models in retouched photos look somewhat strange. However, in real life, the watches look much more interesting and appealing. Until I tried the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar myself, I was not convinced of its merits. It often happens that some watches look better in photos but disappoint in person, and others - the opposite.

Rarely does a model evoke the same emotions both in photos and in real life. That's why I prefer to make conclusions after personally getting acquainted with the watches. What I immediately liked was the good readability of the dial and the unusual visual design, which looks really interesting in person. The contrast finish of the titanium, combining light polished surfaces and dark satin-finished areas, stands out. All this is achieved through the masterful processing of titanium practiced by leading Swiss brands.

Unique Features of the Movement and Dial

Personally, I am not a big fan of perpetual calendars. I understand their complexity and prestige, but I often perceive such watches as expensive, overloaded, and not always practical. Gerald Charles managed to avoid many common drawbacks of expensive perpetual calendars. It all starts with the exclusive automatic movement Gerald Charles calibre GCA11000. It includes all the necessary perpetual calendar information, including a moon phase indicator, while remaining easy to read and not hindering time determination.

For example, the leap year indicator is presented as a small round window between January and March on the month disc, which changes color from white to red in a leap year. The calendar information is read logically: first the day of the week, then the month and date. The only compromise is the absence of a second hand, but these are not sports watches, and many perpetual calendar models also forgo the second hand in favor of a cleaner and more aesthetic dial. I do not consider this a minus, although I do like having a second hand.

Technical Specifications and Features of the GCA11000 Movement

The automatic GCA11000 movement is relatively thin, aesthetically designed, and equipped with a micro-rotor automatic winding system. The operating frequency is 3 Hz, with a power reserve of about 50 hours. The movement was specially developed for the Masterlink case, which is important for collectors who value design integrity. The automatic rotor is made of gold, and the other parts are coated in a golden color.

Besides the version with a solid fume dial, there is a variant with a sapphire transparent dial, allowing the movement to be viewed. This is an interesting model, but I prefer the better readability and symmetry of the fume dial with a gray gradient. The vertical texture of the dial also stands out, harmonizing with the hands and hour markers, filling the space and preventing an empty feeling.

Details and Finishing - The Key to Success of the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar

The main advantage of the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar is attention to small details. The texture of the fume dial is just one example. Also noteworthy are the neat proportions, shape and texture of the crown, the finishing of the metal surfaces, and even the shapes embedded in the movement design. For example, the visual architecture of the GCA11000 movement is conditionally based on a topographic map of Geneva. The location of the Gerald Charles headquarters on Rue du Mont-Blanc is marked on the movement - this is a dark synthetic ruby under the brand logo engraving.

Masterlink Perpetual Calendar titanium case and bracelet

Other important details include the use of scratch-resistant titanium for the case and bracelet, as well as the symmetrical placement of the built-in calendar correction buttons. Built-in buttons often look messy if placed chaotically, but here they are located two on each side of the case. Finally, it is worth noting the very realistic moon phase indicator, which significantly enhances the appearance and overall perception of the watch.

Conclusion: Strengths and Possible Improvements

The only thing I would improve is adding a micro-adjustment system for the bracelet. It is a debatable question how necessary this is, but it is the only noticeable shortcoming. The lightweight titanium case, convenient mechanism, readable dial, and ergonomics make the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar a successful product. The question of appearance perception and value for money is a separate topic. Of course, for the same money, you can choose less successful watches, but Gerald Charles boldly demands a high price for the Masterlink Perpetual Calendar Fume.

Comparison of Gerald Charles Masterlink models

For approximately a quarter of the price, you can purchase a steel three-hand Gerald Charles Masterlink model. It is equipped with a similar micro-rotor movement and has a similar design but looks more accessible. It is also worth noting that the version with the sapphire dial is almost $8,000 more expensive than the version with the fume dial. In my opinion, the reviewed version is the most successful of the current Masterlink Perpetual Calendar options. I like it in titanium, but it is interesting to imagine how it would look in gold. The price of the ML11.0-TNBR-TNSB-BR00SR-TNDP model with a fume dial is $78,800.
