Creating a watch brand today is no easy task.
Considering the economic situation and global changes, it might seem like a risky venture. Therefore, we must admire the courage of those who embark on this journey in 2026, such as Worn & Wound co-founder Zach Weiss. If you are familiar with watch media, the names Worn & Wound and Zach Weiss are likely familiar to you. At the end of January this year, Weiss announced the launch of his brand OraOrea. Two months later, the brand presented its debut collection, Coriolis Pointer Date - three retro watches with a pointer date that possess undeniable charm. Let's take a closer look at OraOrea's first series.
The Concept and Uniqueness of the Coriolis Dial
When developing the Coriolis model, Zach Weiss started with the idea of displaying the hours. His original solution immediately gives the watch character. The dial is crafted in two tiers, alternating Roman numerals and 18-carat gold hemispheres, separated by a railroad-style minute track. This layout keeps the eye constantly moving clockwise in sync with the hands. The traditional yet unusual time display inspired the name Coriolis - a pseudo-force that makes moving objects appear to deviate due to the rotation of the surface.
Design of the OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date
After defining the concept of the hour indicator, all other elements of the dial came together harmoniously. Within the two-tier dial, there is a date pointer. In an original solution, the first half of the date displays even numbers as dots and odd numbers as numerals, and the second half does the opposite: numerals for even dates and dots for odd dates. Weiss achieved this by using dot markers for the 16th and 17th of the month. Another detail is the specially designed numerals for the three Coriolis models.
Above the dial rise four elegantly crafted hands. The hour hand is skeletonized and features an additional arrow-shaped tip. The long pencil-style minute hand and thin seconds hand with a lollipop counterbalance create contrast and add expressiveness. Finally, the smallest skeletonized date hand, positioned below the others, completes the composition. The different styles of hands facilitate the perception of functions while maintaining a harmonious appearance.

Three Dial Variants of the Coriolis Pointer Date
For the debut collection, Weiss proposed three versions:
- Skyline Silver - silver dial with contrasting blue elements.
- Venetus Teal - teal dial with silver and gold details.
- Rhodium Black - black rhodium dial with silver elements and a gold date hand.

The size and style of the date numerals deserve special attention: they do not dominate, yet remain easily readable. This decision is justified since time is usually checked more often than the date. As a result, the dial looks multi-layered and detailed from a functional standpoint.

Case and Finish of the Watches
All three variants are housed in a case with a diameter of 38.5 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 45 mm. The case thickness is 9.3 mm, and with the domed sapphire crystal, the total thickness reaches 12.1 mm. The round case is harmoniously balanced and equipped with wide, curved lugs.

The finish emphasizes the smooth lines of the case: it consists of several individually processed components, including separate "wings" of the lugs. The bezel with circular brushing has a polished edge, and the polished bevels smoothly transition along the case. The look is completed by a 6 mm crown, perfectly integrated into the design.

Sellita SW386-1 Movement
On the back of the watch, the new SW386-1 movement from Sellita, added to the lineup at the end of 2025, is visible. OraOrea became the first brand to use this caliber. The movement with 25 jewels operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour (4 Hz) and provides a power reserve of up to 56 hours. Zach Weiss chose the Top Grade version with regulation in five positions and an accuracy of ±4 to ±15 seconds per day.

The movement is decorated to high Sellita standards: perlage on the plates and bridges, blue screws, patterned edges, rhodium plating, and a custom rotor with the OraOrea logo. The first 100 pieces of each color version will have a rotor engraved with "OraOrea Founder’s Edition" in honor of the brand's launch.

Final Impressions of the OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date Collection
All three models come with a strap made of Italian vegetable-tanned leather without dye, 20/16 mm wide, with hand-stitched saddle stitching along the edges and a branded stainless steel buckle with a mixed finish. Such a strap will acquire a unique character over time.

Overall, the OraOrea Coriolis Pointer Date collection makes an impression of a well-thought-out and charismatic trio of watches with numerous design details reflecting the scope of Zach Weiss's work. All three models are available for pre-order at a price of USD 3,950 on the brand's official website, with deliveries planned for the fourth quarter of 2026.

It will be interesting to watch OraOrea's development, but the first release of the new brand already has a distinct character. Fans of classic date indicators will surely appreciate this collection. The Coriolis Pointer Date is a worthy start for OraOrea.
