When does a microbrand stop being a microbrand and transition into a leading watch brand?
A detailed analysis of this question is a separate topic, but it is important to understand that such a transition requires a significant diversification of the model lineup, including the mastery of more complex complications beyond standard chronographs, GMT, and similar functions. Baltic is one of those brands moving in this direction, and new models like Heures du Monde may be the step that takes the brand out of the microbrand niche.
In recent years, Baltic has firmly established itself in the microbrand niche, specializing in modern watches with vintage French style and elegance. The lineup of dive, field watches, and chronographs has become a benchmark for those seeking stylish, quality watches with excellent value for money. However, until recently, the complications remained quite conservative. The Heures du Monde model changes this, introducing world time to the collection with Baltic's signature style.
Case

Baltic has never strived for loud presence, and the Heures du Monde is no exception. The 316L stainless steel case has a reasonable diameter of 36mm (37mm at the bezel), and with a domed sapphire crystal, the thickness is just 11.3mm. Without the glass, the case is thinner - about 9mm, and the lug-to-lug distance is just under 45mm, offering modest and comfortable wrist dimensions.

The case has a water resistance of up to 100 meters, and the matte ceramic bezel insert combined with the matte facets of the steel case gives the watch an unexpected tool character, despite its restrained appearance. Additionally, there are vintage details - drilled lugs and a screw-down engraved case back, which add individuality to the model.
Dials

The new collection features dials made of labradorite, tiger's eye, and sodalite. Although I did not get to personally assess the tiger's eye, the dark labradorite and blue sodalite made a strong impression. The stones are mesmerizing, changing shades and refracting light, creating an effect that constantly surprises, yet remains restrained enough not to distract from the main functionality.

The central hour and minute hands are shaped like faceted swords with luminescent coating, ensuring good readability thanks to the clear hour markers. However, the complications begin on the outer part of the dial: a 24-hour ring with day and night indication occupies the outer segment, divided into two colors harmoniously matching the main dial. This ring completes a full rotation in 24 hours, and the hand at the '6 o'clock' position indicates the current time in 24-hour format. Completing the composition is a 120-click rotating bezel with 24 cities, which implements the world time function. To use it, simply turn the bezel so that your city aligns with the current time, and the 24-hour ring will show the time in other cities.
Strap

As expected from Baltic, several strap and bracelet options are available. For the model with the dark labradorite dial, a gray Italian suede calfskin strap is provided, and for the sodalite, a blue Italian calfskin strap. Quick-release spring bars allow for easy strap changes to a classic 'beads of rice' bracelet or a flat link stainless steel bracelet with polished and matte elements, giving the watch a premium and luxurious look.
Movement

Behind the solid, screw-down case back is the automatic Soprod C125 GMT caliber with a 42-hour power reserve. The movement has been modified - the date function and GMT hand have been removed, allowing the GMT ring to be independently adjusted, simplifying the setting of the second time zone in combination with the world time function. This design eliminates any unnecessary crown positions. It is worth noting that the first series of Heures du Monde is limited to 200 pieces for each dial, and the case back is individually numbered.
Final Assessment

Baltic Heures du Monde is an impressive addition to Baltic's lineup that logically fits into the brand's overall concept. The watches have character and a distinctly vintage charm while remaining modern and relevant.

The stone dials do not reduce functionality, and in combination with the GMT ring, they create a sense of thoughtfulness and depth, rather than just a decorative solution. Adding the world time function transforms the Heures du Monde into a watch for true enthusiasts and brings Baltic closer to a status surpassing many microbrands.
