Key Takeaways

Earlier this week, I wrote about the new Black Bay Ceramic model - one of Tudor's novelties presented at Watches and Wonders 2026.

At the time, I described it as an analog to the existing Black Bay Ceramic version, but with darkened hands and a ceramic bracelet. Now that we've had the opportunity to see the watch in person, it's clear that the changes are more significant, and we can also assess the comfort of the new bracelet on the wrist.

Visual Changes and Case Features

The most noticeable visual difference is the shade of the outer surfaces. While the previous model appeared purely black under most lighting conditions, the new one displays more dramatic color transitions. The play of light on the satin-finished 41 mm case and ceramic bracelet often gives them anthracite or even lighter gray tones. This creates a more expressive and unique appearance that stands out against typical fully black watches.

Dial Readability and Hand Design

I also assumed that readability would suffer due to the all-black design. Usually, on "darkened" watches, the hands blend with the dial under insufficient lighting. However, the new Black Bay version turned out much better than expected. The sunburst finish of the domed dial creates additional contrast when light hits it. The color is closer to anthracite than black, and the hands and hour markers, as well as the inscriptions on the dial, have glossy black outlines, making them easier to distinguish.

Comfort and Size on the Wrist

Despite the fact that the watch looks less "stealth" than expected, they visually appear smaller than the polished Black Bay models with a 41 mm diameter. Moreover, they are more comfortable than their metal counterparts. Ceramic watches are always distinguished by their lightness, and this model is no exception. The case thickness is 13.6 mm - not very thin, but they do not feel top-heavy. Unlike some ceramic models with titanium elements, here the bezel, case back, and crown are made of steel, but due to the minimal amount of metal, the difference is virtually unnoticeable.

It's important to note that unlike the original Black Bay Ceramic version, the new model features a solid opaque case back. Inside is the same MT5602-U movement with METAS certification, ensuring high precision and reliability.

Features of the Ceramic Bracelet

The fully ceramic bracelet also offers high comfort and has a slight taper towards the clasp. The ceramic feels smooth on the skin. Screws are used to remove the links, which screw into steel inserts inside the ceramic links, and precise adjustment is provided with a half-link. Personally, I prefer the operation of the Tudor steel clasp and will miss the quick adjustment of the T-fit system, but it is probably impossible to implement such a function entirely from ceramic. The double folding "butterfly" construction allows for a seamless row of ceramic links throughout the bracelet.

Fingerprint Resistance and Durability

We also expected that the ceramic case and especially the bracelet would attract fingerprints heavily. However, the satin finish significantly reduces this problem - fingerprints are not as noticeable, and you don't have to constantly wipe the watch with a shirt sleeve, as often happens with PVD-coated metal models.

Conclusion: A Modern Take on Classic Design

The trend for fully black watches seems to have peaked several years ago, but black remains timeless. In the updated Black Bay Ceramic version, Tudor has retained the recognizable aesthetic, giving it a modern look thanks to ceramic finishing technologies. Although steel versions are more versatile in style, this model will maintain a fresh appearance even after daily wear thanks to scratch-resistant ceramic surfaces. Combined with a more expressive design, this may justify the price increase for some buyers. The recommended retail price for the Tudor Black Bay Ceramic, model M7941A1ACNU-0001, is $7,725 USD.
