One of the key factors that make a watch series truly interesting is its diversity.
I especially appreciate when a lineup can transform like a chameleon while maintaining its recognizability. The March LA.B AM2 collection demonstrates exactly this ability. The case shape and details make the watches instantly recognizable. Despite the emergence of numerous different versions, no one doubts that this is indeed the March LA.B AM2. A perfect example is the trio of AM2 XS models - ultra-thin classic watches that bring a fresh accent to the AM2 concept and are suitable for a variety of situations. Possibly, this is the most versatile trio in the brand's lineup.
Versatility of the AM2 Collection Demonstrated by the AM2 XS Series
To demonstrate the diversity of the AM2 collection, it is enough to compare the AM2 XS series under consideration with the AM2 “Nyctalope” Carbon model, which I reviewed in March. The first is a classic series of classic watches, the second is a modern lightweight version using high-tech materials. Despite the difference, both models clearly belong to the same collection. Such design consistency is especially valuable, considering my admiration for the aesthetics of these watches. But how impressive is the AM2 XS in other aspects? I found the answer to this question during a practical review.
History of the March LA.B AM2 XS Creation
The AM2 collection from March LA.B has significantly expanded and includes numerous models. The AM2 XS series is a small line of ultra-thin classic watches. To create it, the March LA.B team reduced the case size and equipped the watches with a hand-wound movement. The result was a trio that emphasizes retro styling. I had the opportunity to familiarize myself with all three versions.
The first is the Golden Hour, whose case is coated with a three-micron layer of yellow gold, and the dial matches the tone. The second is the Shelter variant made of stainless steel with a white dial and gold details. Both models come with a black leather strap, emphasizing their status as classic watches. Finally, the third is the Grall in stainless steel with a dark green dial and steel bracelet. This version is less formal but maintains a stylish look.

Design Features of March LA.B AM2 XS
Let's consider the details of the three models. They all have a square case measuring 32 mm with a thickness of 6.7 mm and a lug width of 18 mm. The case is water-resistant up to 50 meters and is equipped with a crown at the “4 o'clock” position. This element is a signature feature, as is the angular 70s-style case design, which looks particularly striking in the reduced size. The only controversial point was the large crown, which seems too big relative to the case. However, wearing the AM2 XS on the wrist helped form a final opinion.

All three dials have a complex texture that works perfectly with the design. It gives retro charm to the white dial with gold accents and adds depth to the green dial. All three models feature the brand's signature applied markers, familiar from other AM2s. The indices at the 1, 5, 7, and 11 o'clock positions are horizontally oriented, adding an interesting detail. This simple technique helps avoid templates, making the dial unique. Note that similar horizontal markers are also used in TAG Heuer Monaco models.

Manual Winding Movement La Joux-Perret D101
From the back, the watches are protected by signature green sapphire glass, through which you can see the La Joux-Perret D101 movement. This caliber operates at a frequency of 21,600 vibrations per hour, has 18 jewels, and a power reserve of about 50 hours. It is an ultra-thin movement, representing a manual winding version of the popular La Joux-Perret D100 caliber.

Although I am not a fan of colored sapphire glasses, the green glass on the model with the bracelet seemed justified - it emphasizes the sporty character of the watch and harmonizes with the green dial. For the two more classic models on leather straps, a regular transparent sapphire glass or even a solid metal case back seems more appropriate.

Speaking of the bracelet and straps, it is worth noting the seven-row stainless steel bracelet. It is made with quality and is highly flexible, providing comfort when worn. The clasp allows for size adjustment in two positions. To put on the watch, you need to open the top part of the clasp with the logo, wrap the bracelet around the pin, and secure it in one of the two holes, then close the clasp tightly.

Wearing the March LA.B AM2 XS Series
On the wrist, the compact AM2 XS looks very impressive. The small case was perfect for the wrists of different sizes of my colleagues. Initially, I doubted that such watches would be comfortable, but they turned out to be quite comfortable. The crown, which seemed too large on the table, is perceived as harmonious on the wrist.

Among the three models, the retro-style Golden Hour was particularly impressive. It looks like a true vintage piece, but the quality and details remind you that these are modern watches. They can be worn as classic, but they also fit well into less formal looks where style is important.

Expressive Model AM2 XS Grall
The second notable model was the version with a green dial and bracelet. The metal bracelet gives the watch additional expressiveness and shifts them towards a sporty style. This model is suitable for practically any occasion. It reminded me of the Citizen watches that my father wore in the 1980s when he wasn't wearing his Omega Seamaster De Ville. Although the AM2 XS features steeper case angles and more details, the overall impression on the wrist was similar and evoked warm memories.

Conservative Steel Shelter Variant
I was least impressed with the Shelter model with a white dial and gold accents. It seemed more restrained and conservative compared to the others. Perhaps this is why it was named Shelter, which can be translated as “refuge”. If you need a calm classic model, this option deserves attention. Overall, I enjoyed wearing all three versions of the March LA.B AM2 XS. The compact size makes the watches comfortable, and the retro-styling gives them a special charm. It can be confidently said that this reduced version of the AM2 has become a worthy addition to the brand's growing catalog.

Final Impressions of the March LA.B AM2 XS Collection
Throughout the year, I get to test many watches, but only a few leave a truly pleasant impression. The March LA.B AM2 XS turned out to be just that. Before getting to know them, I sympathized with these models but did not highlight them particularly. However, after practical acquaintance, the three AM2 XS variants quickly earned my respect thanks to their charm, comfort, and quality. An additional pleasant bonus was the association of the green Grall model with my father's watch.

Even without taking personal memories into account, the AM2 XS series combines classic retro design with modern technical specifications. Particularly impressive is the versatility of the models - they can be worn in a variety of situations, making them an excellent choice for everyday use at a reasonable price.

The Grall and Shelter models in stainless steel are sold for €1,760 on a lizard leather strap and €2,010 on a steel bracelet or alligator leather strap. Golden Hour is available for €2,820 with a black alligator leather strap. For this price, you get high-quality classic watches from a brand that has found its unique style over time. I look forward to new releases from March LA.B, and if they are at least on the level of the AM2 XS, we are in for many interesting models from the French manufacturer.
