Another Friday - another list. After reviewing our favorite new releases of February 2026 in the last article, we return to our series dedicated to finding worthy alternatives to iconic watches. This time, we have selected the five best alternatives to the Rolex Submariner.
The question is, can the Submariner truly be replaced? The famous Rolex dive watches set the standards of the genre as we know them today. Undoubtedly, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms was a pioneer of the style, but the Submariner defined the design for decades. Nevertheless, if the Rolex Submariner is not to your liking, you may want to find other dive watches. Therefore, we have compiled a list of the top five alternatives. Let's take a look at them.
Why Choose an Alternative to the Rolex Submariner?
Finding five worthy alternatives to one of Rolex's most iconic symbols is not a difficult task. As with previous editions of the series, we had a wide selection. Some models are in the same price range, others are more affordable. We tried to choose watches that reveal the concept of an alternative from different angles: whether it be price, materials, or style. As a result, we have five interesting options that can replace the Rolex Submariner.
Omega Seamaster Diver 300M
An obvious first choice is the Omega Seamaster Diver 300M. As is known, the Seamaster comes in numerous variations. Personally, I currently prefer the no-date versions. Among them are models like the No Time To Die special edition, the James Bond anniversary version with a blue dial, the Nekton model, and a number of standard versions. The James Bond 60th Anniversary edition brought back the famous wave pattern on the dial, reminiscent of the first wavy dials of the 1990s.

I had the opportunity to test the version with a black dial and greatly enjoyed wearing it. Briefly about the specifications: a 42mm stainless steel case, 13.8mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 49.7mm, and water resistance up to 300m. The watch comes with a very comfortable mesh bracelet with an almost hidden clasp.
Black rubber or striped NATO straps are also available, but they do not serve as a good alternative to the Submariner. Inside the case is the Omega caliber 8806 - an automatic movement with a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 55 hours. The movement features a co-axial escapement, a balance with a silicon spring, and is certified to the METAS Master Chronometer standard.

Advantages of the No-Date Version
Compared to the Seamaster Diver 300M with a date, this model wins on the wrist. It looks slightly more concise, and the intricate wave pattern on the aluminum dial combined with the black aluminum bezel has a special charm that I prefer over the more modern and less emotional design of the date version.

Additionally, the mesh bracelet looks more elegant and is more comfortable to wear compared to the bulkier bracelet of the date models. Depending on preferences, both versions are excellent and more affordable alternatives to the Rolex Submariner. The black no-date version on the mesh bracelet costs around €7,200 - an excellent first offer on our list.

Tudor Black Bay "Monochrome"
Another option that immediately comes to mind is the Tudor Black Bay "Monochrome". These watches combine the classic charm of the Submariner with a more affordable price. I also had the opportunity to test them and was impressed. The Black Bay is as close as possible to a modern interpretation of the classic Submariners from Tudor's archives. A feature of this model is the abandonment of retro elements that are often found in the collection and a cleaner, modern design.

A 41mm stainless steel case, 13.6mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 50mm, and water resistance of 200m. In terms of size, the watch is really large. The knurled steel bezel houses a black aluminum insert with silver numerals - a noticeable difference from the Black Bay 58 with gold details, giving a retro look. A black dial with a fine sunburst finish and applied luminous indices. Tudor's signature hands: the hour hand is a snowflake, the minute hand is in the shape of a pencil, and the second hand is lollipop or stick-shaped.

Movement with METAS Certification
Inside the case is the updated Master Chronometer caliber MT5602-U with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 70 hours. METAS certification guarantees accuracy of +0/-5 seconds per day and protection against magnetic fields up to 15,000 gauss. Tudor Black Bay "Monochrome" is an excellent choice for daily wear at a price of €4,820 on an Oyster-style bracelet.

This bracelet is preferable to the five-link Jubilee as it looks better and is closer to the Submariner style. The version on a five-link bracelet costs €4,930.

A more budget-friendly option is the black rubber strap for €4,600, but for our list, the Oyster bracelet with decorative rivets and T-fit clasp remains optimal. This makes the Tudor Black Bay "Monochrome" the ideal second choice.

Rolex Sea-Dweller ref. 126600
One cannot overlook an alternative within the Rolex catalog. The brand has several dive models. If you need a larger version of the classic Submariner with impressive features, consider the Sea-Dweller. Personally, I have long been eyeing this model and consider it an excellent alternative. The current version of the Sea-Dweller has a 43mm stainless steel case, 15.5mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 50mm and water resistance up to 1220m.

Thus, the Sea-Dweller is significantly larger than the Submariner, making it comfortable for owners with larger wrists. The case is equipped with a helium escape valve, which is important for professional divers.

Visual Differences of the Sea-Dweller
The bezel of the Sea-Dweller is made with a black Cerachrom insert. Unlike the Submariner, there is a full set of markers on the bezel, not just on the first 15 minutes. Another detail is the red Sea-Dweller inscription on the lower part of the dial, which highlights the model.

Inside is the Rolex caliber 3235, also used in the Submariner. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour with a power reserve of 70 hours and an accuracy of ±2 seconds per day.

Completing the look is the famous Rolex Oyster bracelet with an Oysterlock clasp and Glidelock system for easy size adjustment. Although the increase in diameter by 3mm has reduced the model's popularity with some, if the larger size suits you, the Sea-Dweller for €14,200 is an excellent alternative.

Seiko Prospex Marinemaster SLA079
The list would be incomplete without the Seiko Marinemaster. Although the name Marinemaster now applies to several models, for us the true Marinemaster is the modern interpretation of the 1968 diver. Two years ago, Seiko introduced new versions of the Marinemaster - the black SLA079 and the white SLA077. In the Netherlands, for example, only the white SLA077 is available, but the black SLA079 is the ideal, relatively affordable alternative to the Rolex Submariner, available in several markets.

A 42.6mm stainless steel case, 13.4mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 49.6mm, and water resistance of 300m. The design retains the signature Marinemaster features inherited from classic Seiko ref. 6215 and 6159 models. Despite minor changes, the design remains relevant decades later. A bezel made of hardened stainless steel with a black insert and white engraving.

Features of the Dial and Movement
For the SLA079, Seiko updated the dial design, making the indices less prominent compared to previous models, including the limited SLA081. Personally, I prefer larger indices, but fans appreciated the innovation.

Inside is the caliber 8L35 with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 50-hour power reserve. The model is equipped with a new five-link stainless steel bracelet, replacing the three-link of its predecessors. A clasp with a double lock, micro-adjustment, and a diver's extension. Seiko is gradually introducing tool-free micro-adjustment systems, and we hope to see them in future models.

The Marinemaster SLA079 sits comfortably on the wrist and is reminiscent of the legendary SBDX001. At a price of about €3,000, it is an excellent budget alternative to the Rolex Submariner.

Unimatic Modello Uno ref. U1S-PD6-B-UBK
Concluding the top 5, we offer a more affordable option - the ProDiver version of the popular Unimatic Modello Uno model. Although the ProDiver series is not yet permanent in the collection, several configurations have appeared over the past two years, so chances of acquiring such watches are high. The latest version - Modello Uno ref. U1S-PD6-B-UBK - is significantly improved compared to the 2024 model.

Visually, the watch is similar to the previous version, but technically Unimatic has increased the water resistance from 500 to 600m, making them modern professional dive watches. A date window has appeared at the "6 o'clock" position. A 40mm case, a 41.5mm bezel, 14mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 49mm. The case thickness is 12.3mm, but with a 3mm sapphire crystal, the total thickness reaches 14mm.

Features of the Bezel and Luminescence
The bezel with 120 clicks is unidirectional, with a ceramic insert treated with Super-LumiNova BGW9 luminescent compound, glowing turquoise. Indices, hour hand, and the tip of the second hand are illuminated with white Super-LumiNova with an orange glow, contrasting with the bezel's turquoise and minute hand.

Inside is the reliable automatic caliber Sellita SW200-1 with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a 41-hour power reserve. The watch comes on a robust Oyster-style stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp and a diver's extension.

The Modello Uno ProDiver is the perfect blend of Unimatic minimalism and modern dive watch capabilities in the Submariner template. The price of €1,740 makes them the most affordable model on our list.
