Today we transition from reviews of various Rolex model alternatives to a closely related topic - alternatives to the Tudor Black Bay.
It's undeniable that since its debut in 2012, the Black Bay series has become a benchmark among dive watches priced under €5,000. Over 14 years, Black Bay has not only become a commercially successful product for Tudor but has also gained a fan-favorite status. Additionally, this series has been the first step into the world of luxury watches for many young enthusiasts. As a result, the Black Bay has become one of the top choices among dive watches in the sub-€5,000 segment. But what if you're looking for something different? We've selected five current alternatives to the Tudor Black Bay.
The question arises: which specific Black Bay models were we selecting alternatives for? The answer is simple - we focused on style and features, not size. As you will see, many brands offer dive watches in various sizes, making it easier to find worthy alternatives to different Black Bay models. Also, note that we are not exclusively seeking more budget-friendly options. Of course, there is an affordable option in the selection, but price is not the main criterion. So, let's dive into the review of five alternatives to the Tudor Black Bay.
Longines Hydroconquest
The first to come to mind is the updated Longines Hydroconquest model. This series was released less than a month ago and has already received widespread acclaim from both the press and collectors. The new Longines diver is available in 39 mm and 42 mm sizes with a variety of dial colors. Additionally, you can choose between a steel H-link bracelet or a mesh bracelet. In our opinion, the H-link bracelet is the best choice, and the version with the dark blue dial shown in the photo is particularly successful. Longines has perfectly matched the shade of blue.

The main innovation of the updated Hydroconquest is the dial design. As noted by Thomas, the combination of rectangular and round markers may seem unusual, but many people like this approach. A full set of rectangular markers would make the design more standard and similar to many other dive watches. Despite the controversial decision, it did not affect the positive reviews of the novelty.

Positive Reception from Fans
Inside the case is the Longines caliber L888.2. The automatic movement operates at a frequency of 25,200 vibrations per hour, contains 21 jewels, and provides a power reserve of 72 hours. There is a date window at the 3 o'clock position with a white disc and black numbers.

We tested the watch in the office and were impressed with how comfortably the 39 mm version sits on the wrist. The case feels very solid, and the H-link bracelet is easy to adjust and comfortable to wear. This is a great step forward in the evolution of the series. The 39 mm and 42 mm versions are priced at €2,200 on the H-link bracelet and €2,300 on the mesh bracelet, making them more affordable alternatives to the Tudor Black Bay. The updated Longines Hydroconquest made an impression upon release, and it will be interesting to watch its commercial success. For us, it was an easy choice for the first position on the list.

Oris Divers Date
The second choice is the Oris Divers Date. The updated version of the Divers Sixty-Five appeared at the end of 2024 and received significant improvements while retaining the unique charm that made the original so successful. The Divers Date features a stainless steel case with a diameter of 39 mm, a thickness of 12.1 mm, and a lug-to-lug length of 46 mm.

Oris changed the bezel: the teeth are now more pronounced for better grip, and the insert is made of ceramic instead of aluminum. The insert design has also been changed: instead of a full set of graduations, only the first 15 minutes are marked. The dials are available in black, grayish blue, and beige. The new design has become more stylish: the indexes are now faceted for extra shine, and the font of the inscriptions has been updated.

Improvements Have Made the Watch Noticeably Better
The dial inscription now indicates water resistance of 200 meters instead of 100, which was made possible by the new case construction. The bracelet has also been updated: now with real polished rivets and quick-release spring bars for convenience. Inside is the caliber 733 based on the Sellita SW200-1 - an automatic movement with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 41 hours.

On the wrist, the Oris Divers Date feels very comfortable thanks to the slim profile and light bracelet. The retro style pairs perfectly with a rubber or leather strap, but we especially appreciated the full package with the bracelet, retaining all the updates without increasing the price. The price is €2,450 on the bracelet. For this money, you get a magnificent vintage dive watch, a worthy alternative to the Tudor Black Bay.

TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Date
The next choice is the TAG Heuer Aquaracer Professional 300 Date. This series has a bright character that we like. The current version of the Aquaracer appeared in 2021 and received an update in 2024. The watches are available in 42 mm and 36 mm cases, as well as in two special 43 mm versions, including the particularly valued Aquaracer Night Diver. The 42 mm version has a thickness of 12 mm and a lug-to-lug length of 48 mm, placing it between the classic Black Bay 41 mm and the large Black Bay 68 43 mm - the latter served as a guide for selection.

The case is equipped with an octagonal bezel with a ceramic insert. The colors of the 42 mm model are black, green, and blue. You can choose between a three-row steel bracelet or a rubber strap. The bracelet is equipped with a folding clasp with micro-adjustment and external buttons. The adjustment mechanism in the clasp is not the most elegant, but quite practical.

The 2024 Update Was Very Timely
In 2024, the case diameter was reduced by 1 mm - a sensible decision. The movement was also updated: the 42 mm version is equipped with the TH31-00 caliber from Sellita, developed jointly with AMT. The frequency is 28,800 vibrations per hour, with a power reserve of 80 hours. The movement is certified as a chronometer with an accuracy of -4/+6 seconds per day.

On the wrist, the TAG Heuer Aquaracer feels comfortable and of high quality. Thanks to the shape of the bezel, the watch looks fresh and recognizable, distinguishing it from competitors and setting it apart from the Tudor Black Bay. The model seems more modern. At €4,550 on the bracelet or €4,350 on the rubber strap, it is an excellent choice among luxury divers and a direct competitor to the Tudor Black Bay.

Seiko Prospex Marinemaster Series SJE
Today, claiming the Seiko Marinemaster as a Black Bay alternative requires clarification. The Marinemaster name is no longer associated with a single design, as before. For this list, we chose the Marinemaster SJE series, based on the 1965 Seiko dive watches known among collectors as 62MAS. The first three models were released in 2023, generating great interest, and in 2024, two more were added.

All five models feature a skin-diver style stainless steel case with a diameter of 39.5 mm, thickness of 12.3 mm, and lug-to-lug length of 47.2 mm. The watches come with a five-link steel bracelet with a hard protective coating, like the case. The dials are textured with stripes and rectangular indexes. Each model has a unique appearance.

Proprietary Seiko Caliber 6L37
Inside is the proprietary automatic caliber 6L37 with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and a power reserve of 45 hours. According to Seiko, the accuracy ranges from -10 to +15 seconds per day. Despite the seemingly modest specifications, owners report significantly better accuracy.

The Marinemaster SJE is priced at €3,400, which is noticeably higher than previous models. Nevertheless, the watches feature high-quality craftsmanship, excellent finishing, and comfort in wearing. They are significantly cheaper than the Black Bay while excellently conveying Seiko's diving watch history, honoring the legendary 1965 model.

Formex Reef 39.5 mm
An excellent modern diver from a lesser-known brand - the Formex “Baby” Reef 39.5 mm. Additionally, it is significantly more affordable, making it the last in our list. The name “Baby Reef” is related to the fact that the 42 mm Reef version was released first. If the larger model already made an impression, the smaller one proved even more successful. These watches offer everything needed for a modern diver at an attractive price.

The stainless steel case has a diameter of 39.5 mm, a thickness of 11.4 mm, and a lug-to-lug length of 45.5 mm. These are compact and balanced dimensions, ensuring comfortable wearing.

The case features an interchangeable stainless steel bezel - an interesting detail that many will appreciate. Formex offers six dial colors (dark blue, green, white, black, bronze, and light blue) and five bezel options with different colored inserts. This provides a wide range of appearance changes. For example, I like the Reef with a bronze dial, and changing the bezels with black and steel inserts completely changes the look.

COSC-Certified Sellita SW300-1 in “Baby” Reef
The watches are powered by the COSC-certified Sellita SW300-1 caliber with a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour, 25 jewels, and a power reserve of 56 hours. This movement surpasses the more common SW200 in accuracy and build quality, while also being thinner, allowing the case to remain slim. The bracelet with screw links features quick-release and micro-adjustment systems without tools. The only remark is that the bracelet could benefit from a slight taper towards the ends for a more elegant look.

Overall, the watches are very comfortable, and their reliability and quality are immediately apparent. At a price of €2,070, this is one of the best options in terms of features and quality. Therefore, the Formex Reef 39.5 mm became our fifth and final alternative to the Tudor Black Bay.
