Robert Downey Jr., also known as Iron Man, is renowned for his fondness for watches, particularly those by URWERK. RDJ has been spotted wearing several timepieces from this brand both on-screen and off. Over the past few years, three watches worn by RDJ have been sold at charity auctions, with the proceeds donated to Random Act Funding, a charitable organization founded by Susan and Robert Downey Jr. Early next week, a special UR-105 TA Raging Gold watch, which RDJ wore during the filming of 'Avengers: Endgame' as his personal timepiece, will be up for online auction. The proceeds will be split between Random Act Funding and, with the support of Ethos (URWERK's commercial partner in India), a Covid relief charity aiding India.
The UR-105 watch, introduced in 2014, is quintessential URWERK: bold, technical, and space-age indie watches. The watch tells time using the brand's wandering hour concept, with rotating hour satellites that move along a 60-minute arc. The back of the UR-105 TA features turbines that control the automatic winding system. A lever allows the watch to be wound in three positions: full wind, reduced wind (to avoid excessive tension on the mainspring), and 'stop' to disable automatic winding and switch to manual winding. The 'Raging Gold' version combines a textured guilloché bezel and a black PVD titanium case back. This rather unusual version is distinguished by special RDJ engraving.
