Hands-On Review of the New Zenith Defy Watches 2026

The Watches and Wonders 2026 is approaching, and Zenith, like many other brands, has prepared a number of exciting novelties.

However, the first releases of the year from Zenith took place at the beginning of 2026 during LVMH Watch Week. In this article, we take an in-depth look at the new Defy collection presented at this event to gain a full understanding of the novelties before the main event of the year.

Zenith Defy Skyline Black & Gold

The first thing that catches the eye is the Zenith Defy Skyline Skeleton in black and gold. The new color scheme retains the main technical parameters: a 41mm diameter case with a thickness of 11.6mm and a lug-to-lug distance of 46.3mm, water resistance of 100 meters, and a screw-down crown. Thanks to its compact size, the watch fits comfortably on wrists that usually do not suit models over 40mm.

The case and bracelet are made of black ceramic - a familiar material to brand enthusiasts. However, the model's highlight is the 4N gold plating on the front and back of the movement, giving the watch a new architectural aesthetic and modern urban style. As my colleague Jason noted, this model could be called the "Night Reveler," but according to Zenith, the gold plating is intended to emphasize the architecture and give a bright, modern urban appearance.

The visual contrast between black and gold creates a striking effect, while the skeletonized movement with a four-pointed star becomes even more noticeable. The color scheme is concentrated on the dial, and two interchangeable straps are available for the owner: an integrated black ceramic bracelet or a black rubber strap with a pattern.

Inside is the in-house automatic caliber El Primero 3620 SK with a high frequency and a power reserve of 60 hours. The movement's feature is a small seconds hand that functions as a tenth-of-a-second counter, making a full rotation every 10 seconds instead of the traditional 60.

Zenith Defy Skyline Chronograph in Black Ceramic

Black ceramic continues to dominate the collection. The Defy Skyline Chronograph model is housed in a black ceramic case with a gradient gray dial. Zenith did not go for a full "phantom" design with an entirely black dial, which could have enhanced the monochrome and stealthy look, but chose a gradient that improves legibility.

The central star motif on the dial is broken by three chronograph counters, each in gray tones with a concentric texture. When light hits, their surface reflects differently than that of the main dial, making it easier to read the information.

The first version of the Defy Skyline Chronograph in ceramic debuted in 2025 at Watches and Wonders with a blue limited edition, and this model is a regular series.

The case is 42mm in diameter, 12.7mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 47.4mm - compact dimensions for a chronograph of this diameter. Water resistance is 100 meters, and the screw-down crown and ceramic case ensure reliability and comfort when worn on a bracelet or rubber strap.

Notably, the rich polishing with polished elements corresponds to the high level of finish expected for watches of this class. The only wish is to add a micro-adjustment system for the bracelet.

Inside is the latest version of the legendary El Primero 3600 chronograph with high frequency, capable of measuring time to 1/10 second, with the central chronograph second hand making a full rotation every 10 seconds.

Zenith Defy Revival A3643

In the segment of watches with a case diameter of less than 38mm, Zenith remains one of the few brands with constant updates and a wide range. The Defy Revival series is an exact reproduction of the original 1969 design, which influenced the modern Defy line.

The Defy Revival A3643 model is one of the most restrained variations. While previous versions stood out with vibrant dial colors (ruby, turquoise), the A3643 offers a classic silver dial with a sunburst pattern. Combined with the steel case and bracelet, this creates a simple monochrome look, complemented by the orange luminescence of the central seconds hand.

The stainless steel case measures 37mm in diameter, 13.6mm thick, with a lug-to-lug distance of 44mm. Water resistance is 300 meters, and the screw-down crown, characteristic design with a 14-sided bezel, and "cut" case give the watch a vintage look. The bracelet is the legendary steel "ladder" Gay Frères.

The movement is the in-house automatic Elite 670 with a 50-hour power reserve, visible through the transparent case back.

Zenith Defy Skyline 36 Silver

Zenith has expanded the Defy Skyline 36 line with a new model featuring a silver dial. For those who prefer smaller diameter watches or are looking for vintage sizes, this model offers a 36mm diameter, 10.3mm thickness, and a compact lug-to-lug distance of 40.6mm.

Despite the reduced size, the watch has maintained a water resistance of 100 meters with a screw-down crown and an integrated interchangeable bracelet, which can be replaced with the included rubber strap.

The movement is the same Elite 670 with a 50-hour power reserve, visible through the transparent case back. Unlike the larger Skyline models, it uses a classic seconds hand, making a full rotation every 60 seconds, which may be preferable for some users.
