The year 2021 marked the release of another record-breaking watch from BVLGARI. After half a dozen years of showcasing the “world’s thinnest” mechanical watch movements, the latest slim model is the BVLGARI Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar. It sets a record as the thinnest automatic mechanical watch with a perpetual calendar complication.

The in-house movement is only 2.75 mm thick, while the Octo Finissimo case is just 5.8 mm thick.

Perpetual calendar mechanisms are calendars that account for the differences in the duration of both months and leap years. The 408 components of the hand-assembled automatic BVL305 caliber with a micro-rotor fill the narrow space and elegantly form a symmetrical perpetual calendar display on the Octo Finissimo's dial. The watch itself debuts in a 40 mm sandblasted titanium case, as well as a platinum Octo Finissimo style.

Antoine Pin, the Managing Director of LVMH's watch division, oversees the production and creation of new mechanical calibers for BVLGARI watches. Mr. Pin invites fellow watch enthusiasts to the headquarters in Le Sentier, Switzerland, where these rare mechanical creations are developed and produced. There, he talks about the development of the Octo Finissimo Perpetual Calendar and discusses it with BVLGARI's watchmaker.
