The 1970s remain a constant source of inspiration for many industries. After all, it was an era of free spirit and iconic design, reflected in watches as well. Quirky colors and shaped cases were in vogue. In 2014, Glashütte Original introduced its version of luxury sports watches with a very original look and feel - the Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date. The watches were even named after the decade from which they drew inspiration! Now, Glashütte Original presents a pair of limited editions that play on the groove theme, with two fun new colors: sunny yellow and vibrant turquoise - Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date 2021 Limited Editions.
Formally, there is nothing new in these watches; the updates are only on the dials. But, as we have seen in the past, Glashütte Original is no stranger to original colors and textures. In this pair of watches, the brand doesn't hold back. In 2019, Glashütte Original released the first pair of Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date L.E. watches with dials reflecting the Saxon mountains. Two years later, we have new colors.
Two colors that were very trendy in the 1970s are offered: a solid lacquered yellow or a gradient lacquered turquoise. Not the most common colors in the watch industry, but they look stunning! The yellow is solid, while the turquoise dial has a gradient effect, transitioning from bright turquoise in the center to slightly darker at the edges. Aside from the color, nothing on the dial has changed. It still uses a bi-compax chronograph layout with a power reserve indication integrated into the running seconds sub-dial, as well as the Panorama Date window, which gave the watch its name. Applied polished markers with luminescent dots on the minute track and dauphine-shaped hands contrast nicely against the playful background.

The watches have a reasonable square case size of 40 mm by 40 mm with rounded edges for a softer look. The bezel is polished, set against a matte surface case, with a polished part that integrates into the strap or bracelet. The Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date comes on brown-grey nubuck straps integrated into the case or on a stainless steel bracelet with a folding clasp that allows for micro-adjustment.

As for the technical side, these new limited editions for 2021 are still equipped with the in-house automatic chronograph caliber with flyback function 37-02. In typical Glashütte Original style, this is a beautifully finished movement with a stylized rotor in the shape of the letters GO, visible through the sapphire crystal case back. Since the chronograph movement is integrated, the crown and pushers are on the same level, which perfectly balances the appearance of the case. It has a 70-hour power reserve and displays hours, minutes, small seconds, Panorama Date, power reserve, and of course, chronograph indication. The 30-minute counter is located at the 3 o'clock position, and the 12-hour counter is visible in the aperture at the 12 o'clock position.

Both colors, sunny yellow and vibrant turquoise, are limited to 100 pieces and cost 13,200 euros on a leather strap (available in long and short) or 14,400 euros on an integrated steel bracelet.
