Brellum is a truly independent watch company wholly owned by its founder, Sébastien Muller. Everyone who contacts Brellum engages directly with Sébastien himself, a fourth-generation Swiss watchmaker. Through hard work and dedication, he has built the company into what it is today: a manufacturer of relatively affordable, COSC-certified mechanical watches with a grounded philosophy. It all began with the Duobox model, a retro-style sports chronograph, followed by the more classic Wyvern collection. The latest family member is the new Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer.
The original Duobox collection and all its successors have been highly praised by enthusiasts, and deservedly so. These are well-crafted, fully mechanical watches with excellent technical specifications at a very competitive price. They combine retro style, modern materials and finishes, a reliable chronograph movement, all at a price of around 3,000 euros. Three years ago, Sébastien introduced the Brellum Wyvern 5 Days Chronometer, designed in a more formal style and equipped with a proprietary mechanical movement.
The Wyvern 5 Days Chronometer has now been joined by the new Wyvern GMT Chronometer. Given the name, there are no illusions about what these watches will show. The 42mm wide steel case features a matte finish with polished edges, available with a silver, black, or blue dial. All multilayered dials have a matte sunray finish and a stepped outer flange with a 5-minute scale and markers. The indices are a combination of faceted markers and numerals coated with Super LumiNova. The box-shaped sapphire crystal on top gives a rather pleasing height of 10.90 mm.
The faceted hour and minute hands have a contrasting central stripe with a Super LumiNova insert. The seconds hand is polished or blued with a luminous tip. Alongside the hour, minute, and seconds hands is a central GMT hand with a triangular tip, also equipped with Super LumiNova. The dial is complemented by a date window on the right side.
The Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer is powered by the BR-893-GMT movement, based on the ETA 2893-2. This automatic movement, like all Brellum watches, is COSC chronometer certified. It displays time, date, and of course, a second time zone via the GMT hand. Visible through the case back, the movement is neatly finished with perlage, Geneva stripes, and colimaçon. Above it is a skeletonized rotor in gold color with a black Wyvern logo. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 42 hours.
The Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer comes on an integrated rubber strap (black or blue) with a contrasting stripe (light blue, yellow, or red). You can choose between a stainless steel pin buckle or a folding clasp. As an option, a stainless steel bracelet with alternating matte and polished links is available. The price of the Brellum Wyvern GMT Chronometer is 2,110 euros, including taxes and worldwide shipping.
