When Rieussec presented his new invention to the French Academy of Sciences, he called this complication a chronograph (from Greek - writing time), and this name has been retained for two centuries. The new Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200 combines ornate classical style with a unique 19th-century approach to the chronograph complication, making it a traditional tribute to the very first chronograph.
With a width of 44.8 mm and a thickness of 15.1 mm, the polished stainless steel case of the Montblanc Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200 looks impressive in the initial images. However, the watch design itself is clean and traditional: rounded sides of the case, long stepped lugs, a flat polished bezel, and a prominent onion crown with a signature at the "3 o'clock" position. Staying true to classic inspiration, the Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200 uses a monopusher chronograph construction, with all functions operated by a broad rectangular button at the "8 o'clock" position. Montblanc equipped the watch with a sapphire case back to showcase the internal mechanism and rated the case's water resistance at 50 meters. Nevertheless, this model lacks genuine sports aspirations, so the absence of significant water resistance is relatively unimportant.

The design, shifted towards the center, is dominated by the use of complex visual layering and rococo guilloché patterns in a golden tone. The surface of the main dial is fully adorned with a barleycorn grain d'orge pattern, giving it a rich texture and dynamism at first glance, and is complemented by a raised outer ring decorated with filet sauté edging.

Montblanc equips the Star Legacy Nicolas Rieussec Chronograph Limited Edition 200 with its in-house automatic MB R200 GMT chronograph movement. Like the dial, the movement is richly adorned with a special golden micro-rotor dedicated to the birth of the chronograph in 1821, as well as Côtes de Genève patterns along the bridges, blued screws, and gilded wheels. The technical side of the MB R200 is no less complex. The movement features a column wheel and vertical clutch, as well as a dual-barrel mainspring and transverse balance bridge. All this ensures exemplary performance, including a 72-hour power reserve at a frequency of 28,800 beats per hour.
