According to Rick Denney, an expert and member of the WatchUSeek community, Ebel purchased surplus El Primero movements from Zenith and installed them in the Sport Classic Chronograph models. The first watches used the Zenith caliber 3019PHC. In 1986, Zenith resumed production of El Primero with caliber 40.0, and Ebel switched to it, later moving to caliber 400.
The El Primero caliber 400 is a high-frequency (36,000 vibrations per hour, 5 Hz) column-wheel chronograph, which Ebel designated as caliber 134. This movement was also supplied to other brands, including Rolex for the Daytona model (1988–2000), but Ebel retained the movement's high frequency.
In 1995, Ebel released the Le Modulor chronograph with caliber 137, developed in collaboration with Lémania, which became the successor to the Sport Classic.

Despite some users complaining about the bracelet pulling hair, I have not experienced such issues. The bracelet is thin and seems fragile, but over decades of use, it has held up well, proving its durability.

Spare Ebel wave-pattern bracelets are available at a reasonable price.
Important Points in Operation and Maintenance
Most of these chronographs have survived nearly without serious issues for 40 years. However, the bracelet attachment on two screws under the lugs can lead to breakage under excessive load on the link.
Despite the official water resistance of 30 meters, due to age and lack of gasket replacement, it is not recommended to expose the watch to water without confirmed service.
When buying, it's better to focus on the good condition of the watch rather than a full set. If a complete set is important, pay attention to differences in leather cases and warranty documents.
