Key Takeaways

  • Corum celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Golden Bridge Automatic.
  • Four new titanium models enhance viewing with a single sapphire glass.
  • Vincent Calabrese's linear movement remains the highlight of the collection.

I believe most watch enthusiasts will agree that the Golden Bridge, Corum's remarkable linear movement set within a transparent case, deserves iconic status in the pantheon of innovative movement designs. Introduced in 1980 with a manual movement, the Golden Bridge was equipped with an automatic movement in 2011. To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Golden Bridge automatic movement, Corum presents four new models in titanium cases with expansive viewing areas, thanks to a single sapphire glass that extends from the dial to the sides of the case.

GOLDEN BRIDGE

We must thank Italian watchmaker Vincent Calabrese for the original linear movement, set on a vertical axis, which is the heart and soul of the Golden Bridge watches. Calabrese wanted his original movement design to be the star of the show and presented his prototype at the Geneva International Inventions Exhibition in 1977. Corum quickly recognized the potential of Calabrese's innovative movement, purchased the patent, and invited Calabrese to develop the movement for the brand. Three years later, at the 1980 Basel Fair, the first Corum Golden Bridge with gold movement components was introduced.
