There are brands that declare their intention to evolve, and there are those that truly do so.
The Swiss independent manufacturer Formex, known for its reputation due to genuine chronometric certifications and advantageous offers, has made a bold move - higher risk for higher reward. Formex has introduced its first watch with a proprietary calibre in an ultra-thin integrated design - the Aria Manufacture Chronometer.
Fifth Collection and Statement of Intent
To understand the significance of Aria, it is important to know the history of Formex. The brand already has four main collections - Essence, Reef, Stratos, and Field - each of which stands out for high-quality finishing, technical specifications, and optimal value for money. However, creating a proprietary calibre is a completely different level.

"We started with a blank slate," noted Granito. "We really wanted to create a watch with an integrated bracelet." This process took two and a half years and was implemented in collaboration with movement partner Horage - "our very close friend and neighbor." The result is a 40 mm titanium sports watch with a fully integrated case only 6.9 mm thick and a high-class micro-rotor movement inside. With a lug-to-lug size of 45 mm and a weight of only 78 grams with the bracelet, this model occupies a rare place in the segment of mechanical watches with such technical ambitions.

In a category filled with angular, architectural integrated bracelets, Formex chose a different path. The inspiration came from stones shaped by water over centuries - surfaces that initially sharp, gradually become more rounded, smooth, and natural. "We wanted to be inspired by forms created by nature and the elements," explained Granito.
"A stone that lies at the bottom of a river for hundreds of years is initially very sharp, but over time becomes smoother." This philosophy is also reflected in the dial, where wavy protrusions reminiscent of water patterns around stones are located behind the indices. The dial is fully stamped, then subjected to a fine wet sandblasting and lacquering - a real manufacturing achievement with the ultra-thin profile of the watch.
Movement: Advanced Horage K2

The calibre is the key element that gives Aria its status. The Horage K2 movement installed in these watches is not a static design. Since its release in 2020, it has been repeatedly improved, and the version in Aria is the most advanced, equipped with the latest Horage technologies. The main characteristics are impressive: 72-hour power reserve, COSC chronometer certification, fully silicon escapement with a proprietary hairspring, anchor wheel, and fork.
Horage is also known for its efficient micro-rotor winding technology - traditionally a weak point in thin movements with a small mass of winding. "About one hour of wearing the watch provides approximately 10 hours of power reserve," explained Sharp. "We achieved about a 55% increase in winding efficiency in this calibre." This is not a marketing ploy, but a significant engineering result.
Special attention is deserved by the flexible gear mechanism, manufactured using LIGA technology. This MEMS process - lithography, electroforming, and molding - allows for the creation of gear wheels with flexible teeth that are constantly in contact without the jitter caused by tolerances. If you have ever adjusted precise watches and noticed the second hand jitter when activated, you will immediately understand the importance of this technology. As Sharp noted: "Once you experience this, you won't want watches without such technology."
Important Details

- Six millimeters of micro-adjustment on the clasp.
- Quick-release clasps on the back of the bracelet for ease of removal.
- The case and bracelet are made entirely of Grade 5 titanium, providing a light weight of only 78 grams.
- Three dial color options for the limited Founders Edition - Denso Blue, Selva Green, and Ardesia Grey.
- A total of 100 numbered pieces, with deliveries planned for September.
- The next batches will appear only in the spring of the following year.
- Price - 7,900 US dollars. For manufacture watches with COSC certification, silicon escapement, and titanium case, this is a very competitive offer in 2026.
Overall Picture

Formex has always been focused on the long term. Launched on Kickstarter in 2018, the brand has earned trust the hard way and is methodically building its reputation by offering superior quality at all price levels. Aria is not a departure from this philosophy - it is its complete embodiment. Manufacture watches priced lower than most Swiss brands for just the bracelet alone. Aria does not shout about itself loudly. It doesn't need to. Like the stone in the river that inspired its creation, it speaks for itself.
