Seiko continues its 145th anniversary celebration with a special version of the King Seiko Vanac.

Since the return of the Vanac series in 2025, the collection has rapidly expanded. Currently, there are nine models available in steel and titanium with a distinctive 70s style. The new Vanac HKF004 immediately draws attention. The vibrant combination of blue and white, dedicated to the brand's 145th anniversary, stands out against the standard lineup. This is exactly what a limited series should bring. How successful is this decision for Vanac? I had the chance to find out.

The Return of Vanac to the King Seiko Collection

It's been just over a year since the Vanac name reappeared in the King Seiko lineup. I have a special connection to the original Vanac watches from the 1970s. I wrote about vintage Vanac models in our buying guide and was immediately intrigued by them. Their angular cases, vibrant dials, and faceted crystals make these watches truly unique. My favorite model is the King Seiko Vanac 5626-7140, which looks just as impressive today as it did at its debut.

The modern Vanac series, of course, is not as exotic as the originals from the 70s, but it retains the typical aesthetic of that era, which makes it stand out in the King Seiko collection.

Features of the Limited Edition King Seiko HKF004 for the 145th Anniversary

If Vanac already stands out in the King Seiko collection, the new limited edition HKF004 makes it even more striking. The special color scheme - blue and white - chosen for the anniversary series, looks fresh and noticeably different from other models.

This model proves that a simple color change can create an instant effect. The design basis is similar to the first series of steel models released last year. The case is made of stainless steel, with a diameter of 41 mm, a lug-to-lug distance of 45 mm, and a thickness of 14.3 mm, including the box-type sapphire crystal.

The case is complemented by an integrated bracelet, enhancing the overall aesthetic of the watch. From my experience, the bracelet is comfortable and made of quality materials. In this limited version, the contrast is maximized - a silvery-white dial with a horizontal pattern.

The dial features a bright blue ring with hour markers and a date window at the 3 o'clock position. The hour markers are filled with white Lumibrite, ensuring good readability in the dark. Additionally, the bright white lume contrasts with the blue ring in daylight.

Details and Finish of the New Vanac Model

The complex finish emphasizes the angular design of the modern Vanac. The combination of matte and mirror-polished surfaces gives the case expressiveness on the wrist. An additional visual effect is created by the meticulous craftsmanship of the bracelet links. Another interesting detail - the hour marker at 12 and the counterweight of the second hand are shaped like the letter V, referring to the name Vanac.

At first glance, the second hand counterweight seemed too obvious a year ago. However, after wearing the steel and titanium models released a few months ago, I can say that it does not stand out negatively. The hands of the Vanac HKF004 are painted in a rich blue color. Although it differs from the darker blue ring on the dial, these elements harmoniously complement each other.

High-End Seiko 8L45 Movement

Under the closed case back with a blue logo lies the proprietary Seiko 8L45 caliber. This automatic movement with 35 jewels operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and has a power reserve of 72 hours. The 8L45 caliber is based on the Grand Seiko 9S65.

Seiko officially states an accuracy of +10/-5 seconds per day. It's a reliable movement, also used in several Seiko Marinemaster models. Thanks to the sapphire crystal on the case back, you can observe the mechanism's operation and its elegant finish with a striped pattern on the bridges and rotor.

Wearing the King Seiko Vanac HKF004

On the wrist, the Vanac HKF004 feels very comfortable. As soon as I fastened the butterfly clasp, I remembered how well the modern Vanac sits on the wrist. In addition, the design and profile of the watch immediately catch the eye. From the angular case and box sapphire crystal to the distinctive bracelet - there is much to appreciate in this model.

The build quality is also top-notch. As expected, it's a level above the standard Seiko collection. The Vanac has a pleasing heft, which I particularly like, and the bracelet is both flexible due to the small links and very sturdy thanks to excellent engineering.

Final Impressions of the Limited Edition King Seiko Vanac HKF004 for the 145th Anniversary

Overall, it was nice to once again be convinced of the impressive quality of the King Seiko Vanac. Although I knew about the high level of execution and distinctive design, the best confirmation is personal wear. The new dial stands out advantageously from the rest of the lineup. The closest in style is the special Vanac Boutique Edition SLA091 with a silvery dial and icy blue ring, but the HKF004 feels like an independent and fresh version. The color scheme choice seems more modern and relevant than most current Vanac models.

While the titanium HKF003 remains my favorite model, the HKF004 is a worthy update that adds variety to the collection. The new limited edition King Seiko Vanac HKF004 will be released in a run of 800 pieces, priced at €3,400. Sales will begin in July 2026 in Seiko boutiques and selected partners worldwide.
