In our watch enthusiast community, we all know the great value of Mako divers and the evergreen Bambino. But this time, we have come closer in spirit to a certain great brand. However, like all Orient Star creations, these watches showcase a distinct personality and everyday elegance.

The history of Orient Star began in 1951, and its position is strong in many parts of the world. We are pleased to see a significant European reboot of our ever-shortening attention spans with the M34 series. These two F8 Date models are part of a series inspired by the sky and the Messier catalog of astronomical objects. In terms of size, we see a clear sign that Orient Star is aware of the trend toward smaller diameters. Just as we applauded the new 38mm Bambino model, it makes the F8 very wearable and discreetly elegant at the same time.

And, as in the limited edition, the applied details are distinctively intricate despite being budget-friendly.
I won't delve too far into fashion, but I do have a few beautiful blue bracelets that would match perfectly with them (apologies). But overall, Orient Star has chosen two colors wisely, maximizing the impact of the hand-engraved dial, which stands out even among rather beautiful Japanese alternatives.

The M34 F8 Date collection, inspired by celestial objects and the intriguing Messier catalog, is a strong card for Orient Star in the modern market. While I see recognizable features of timeless Swiss elegance and the top echelon of the Japanese brand Grand Seiko, these two are admirably recognizable as Orient Star watches. Maintaining visual identity without deviations and relying on its own strengths bodes well for the brand. And in the modern watch world, offering elegant sports watches on a bracelet is no easy task.
But, retaining the hooks of the M collection and a recognizable identity that is not Swiss, the battle is already half-won. And it's a battle of hearts, with a modern design and no retro. Not everyone may like the bold "XII" inscription at the 12 o'clock position or the useful power reserve indicator beneath it. I, however, like the textured dials, especially the brilliant silver-white. Combined with a massive steel bracelet that far exceeds its price point, it's simply a winning combination.
