Key Takeaways

  • Rolex Yacht-Master 42 offers luxury and year-round enjoyment.
  • Synchron's lightweight Poseidon I is perfect for summer.
  • Victorinox's solar-powered watch is reliable for travel.

Among all my colleagues, perhaps I'm from the hottest place. So technically, I've lived with summer watches for most of my life.

Since moving to Europe in 2011, I've noticed that hot weather watches bring me joy when they are incredibly comfortable. In Europe, many live without air conditioning, and I've adapted to this by learning to dress appropriately - light, loose clothing works best. This rule now extends to my watch choices. This year, I had to be even more strategic because the heat in the UK and Germany feels different. I also decided not to follow my colleagues' themes of selecting watches in different price categories, as I want my choices to reflect my true preferences. So without further ado - let's look at some summer watches that I'd happily wear during the hottest part of the year.

Rolex Yacht-Master 42 in Titanium watch

For a long time, I criticized the Yacht-Master. What are these watches, other than a pretty attempt to tie the model to the hobbies or sports of wealthy people? Essentially, it's a less functional version of the Submariner with a regatta bezel. Many of us don't even sail. But not everyone dives or uses the features of dive watches, and yet it doesn't stop us from enjoying watches for their aesthetics and quality, does it?

The Rolex Yacht-Master 42, introduced in 2023, was the brand's first production model made from RLX titanium alloy. For a company that measures changes literally in millimeters, this was a significant step.

Unfortunately, everyone noticed the novelty, and from day one, the titanium Yacht-Masters have been almost impossible to buy. In three years, I've seen only three such pieces in person. Once at an event, the owner kindly let me try on the watch. Honestly, I'm not particularly impressed by modern Rolex, but this Yacht-Master is almost an exception. Applying Rolex's superb finish and build quality to the titanium case and bracelet makes them much better than competitors. The lightness of the case completely negates their technically large diameter. The black Cerachrom ceramic bezel looks great on the matte dial. Priced at €15,200, these are expensive watches, but they will delight you all year round.

Interestingly, newcomers often write to the brand after receiving the watch to confirm if they are indeed so light. This was the case with Rick Marei after releasing the 50-gram titanium Synchron Ti300M Poseidon I. The case shape is reminiscent of the Doxa Sub, but the mind struggles to comprehend such a 'featherweight' version. Despite a thickness of 11.9mm, these 41 × 45mm diver's watches have a water resistance of up to 300m.

I also like that they are equipped with a high-quality automatic La Joux-Perret G100 caliber. These are one of those summer watches that are unlikely to leave your wrist, and the 60-hour power reserve adds convenience. The bright design and rich colors make the model stand out, and the pre-order price of $1,290 (unfortunately, deliveries are expected only in October) makes it an excellent choice for a warm autumn.

Victorinox Concept One Solar watch

Victorinox Concept One Solar

This summer, I'm going to Brazil for a week. For the trip, I was looking for a reliable but not too flashy watch. Whether the new Victorinox Concept One Solar fits this description is debatable, but they were on my list. I first saw them in October last year, when they were still under embargo. Interestingly, Victorinox showed them at the WatchPro exhibition in London, and I liked them very much.

Victorinox Concept One Solar steel version

These watches resemble an improved version of the Citizen Tough Solar 'Ray Mears', which I wear constantly. But the Concept One Solar is made of steel, not plastic, and looks more modern. They feature a solar-powered Ronda 215 movement with an 8-month power reserve and a battery life of up to 8 years. Water resistance is 100m, with options available on a rubber strap or bracelet. Colors include black, blue, light gray, and dark gray. Priced at €795 on a rubber strap, it's not a budget option, but Victorinox offers excellent quality and a 5-year warranty.

TAG Heuer Formula 1 Solargraphs watch

My next choice may spark debate, but in a selection of five watches, at least one should be somewhat controversial. In 2025, after a long time, TAG Heuer brought back a modern version of the 1980s quartz Formula 1. The new models abandoned the traditional battery in favor of a solar cell quartz movement. The case diameter increased to 38mm.

The main complaint is the price. Many expected the watches to cost around €500, but they are significantly more expensive - starting from €1,000 and up.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 250 36mm watch

Nevertheless, TAG Heuer did an excellent job reviving this model. The watches are bright, fun, and require little maintenance. There are many options available on a steel bracelet or rubber strap. New pastel colors appeared at the end of April. With 100m water resistance and a simple solar movement, the €1,950 price is the only serious stumbling block.

Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 250 (36mm) - Last on My List

Finally, my last choice is the Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 36mm, which I'll take with me to Brazil. It's winter there, but it will be warm enough for the beach. The model was announced at the end of April, and I initially missed the news but then became interested. I had already tested the original 38mm version, and I liked it very much, but it was a bit too large for my wrist. Now there's a smaller version, and it's really good.

Detail of Hamilton Khaki Field Mechanical 250

The 36mm diameter is smaller, but the details matter: an old-fashioned logo, acrylic glass, a hand-wound mechanical movement with an 80-hour power reserve, and 100m water resistance. A unique feature is the engraving on the case back in honor of the 250th anniversary of the United States. As an American, I find this cool and unobtrusive. Priced at $725 (or €675 for the international version), it's reasonably priced, and soon the watch will join my collection.

Conclusion

So these are my five best summer watches for 2026. Overall, the selection was relatively affordable, except for the Rolex, but there's a common theme - lightness, comfort, and reliability. Perhaps the watches I actually decided to buy don't fully meet these criteria, but they seem perfect for a special occasion - Independence Day in the USA.
