Review of Serica Ref. 7505 Watch

As in many areas of design, trends in the watch industry are cyclical.

After a long period dominated by large and bulky watches on the wrists of enthusiasts, a restrained size has now come to the forefront. Collectors and enthusiasts increasingly choose compact models, and this trend is gradually spreading to a wider audience thanks to growing awareness through social media, especially in matters of style. Previously, large watches were necessary as no one paid much attention, but now, with more eyes on them, a bold statement can be made with more restrained and neat models.

The availability of reasonably sized movements also contributes to this trend. Microbrands have gained the ability to offer compact watches that are no less functional than their larger counterparts. For a long time, a 36 mm diameter was considered optimal for most wrists, but small tool watches often did not meet expectations until Serica entered the market. Its new model, the Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer, proves that tool watches do not have to be bulky.

Case

The Serica Ref. 7505 Field Chronometer continues the traditions of the brand's field watch design, already familiar from the Ref. 6190 and 4512 models. They combine Parisian elegance and military simplicity, creating a functional accessory with a distinctly individual character. Like its predecessors, the case is made of matte stainless steel with sharp edges and corners that are smoothly rounded rather than heavily faceted. This is important as the 35 mm case diameter maintains moderate visual expressiveness on the wrist, and excessive facets could make the watch appear visually smaller.

The lug-to-lug length is 41.5 mm, maintaining the model's balance and restraint. The case thickness is only 9.6 mm, despite the double-domed sapphire crystal with internal anti-reflective coating. The fixed bezel, large screw-down crown, and case back provide water resistance up to 200 meters, indicating high functionality in a compact size.

Dials

The Ref. 7505 is offered with three dial options. The first two are polished enamel black and olive green (the latter, unfortunately, we couldn't see in person). Both options feature Serica's new 'Minute Critical Dial' layout, with luminescent hour markers and Arabic numerals, providing a clean and practical design. This variant is ideal for everyday use and is the most restrained.

The third option is the popular Tuxedo dial, also in polished enamel, with a striking beige ring on a black background. The beige minute scale extends from the ring, and the hour markers are applied in Serica's characteristic style. All three models feature wide matte-finished arrow-shaped hands, ensuring excellent legibility in all conditions, which is especially important for a compact dial.

Movement

Despite the reduced case size, the choice of movement remains the same - the Swiss automatic caliber Soprod M100. It is hidden behind a solid engraved case back and is COSC certified, ensuring high accuracy. The power reserve is 42 hours, with a balance frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour. Providing a COSC-certified movement at a price point of about 1000 euros is rare, especially considering the neat decoration of the movement with Côtes de Genève, even if it is hidden from view.

Bracelet

The watch comes with a proprietary Bonklip stainless steel bracelet with a branded clasp, available in three sizes: small, standard, and extended. The bracelet design is inspired by mid-20th century models worn by Royal Air Force pilots. This ensures a comfortable fit from day one. When purchasing in-store, personalized bracelet adjustment is possible thanks to the removable Bonklip links with virtually endless adjustment options. In the Ref. 7505 version, the bracelet received a new 'Safe-Lock' clasp, which securely fixes the bracelet, preventing accidental opening.

Conclusion

For tool watches, functionality and reliability in challenging conditions are important, but so is the emotional connection with the owner. Without it, the watch risks becoming just a tool worn rarely. The Ref. 7505 from Serica combines all the advantages of quality tool watches while remaining an extremely comfortable and versatile accessory.

The absence of a logo on the dial adds mystery and piques the interest of others, while the design remains restrained. The 35 mm diameter opens new possibilities for those seeking versatile watches: whether it's a woman with a thin wrist for whom 39 mm is too much, or a man with a large wrist tired of bulky models.
