Almost every time we write about Bvlgari, there are news of another impressive ultra-thin world record with the Octo Finissimo. While this model belongs to the iconic ultra-thin Octo Finissimo family and is equipped with a manual winding movement, today's news concerns a very striking color update to the existing Octo Finissimo Skeleton model. Initially introduced in 2016 in a steel case with black DLC coating, a pink gold bezel, and a radically skeletonized movement, the Octo Finissimo Skeleton was presented in 2018 in an all-black titanium case. The novelty for 2021 is a limited edition of matte black ceramic Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton Red.

Being one of the most iconic watch designs to date, the Octo combines elements of classical Roman architecture with powerful avant-garde design. With the advent of the ultra-thin Octo Finissimo line in 2014, Bvlgari proved that a thin profile does not conflict with complex case constructions and various complications. If you want to learn more about the Octo Finissimo line, don't miss our retrospective review of this collection and its ultra-thin podium winners.

The technical specifications of the latest Octo Finissimo Skeleton model have not changed. The 40 mm case with an ultra-thin height of 5.75 mm is identical to previous models but is now made of high-tech black ceramic. Striving for a modern "stealth" style, the ceramic used for the case, bracelet, folding clasp, and crown is sandblasted to achieve a matte, slightly grainy surface. As in the monochrome titanium version of 2018, the matte black ceramic finish somewhat softens the complex stepped and octagonal architecture of the case, especially compared to models like the Octo Finissimo S Chronograph version in stainless steel with its dynamic polished and matte finish.

The novelty here is the use of bold red accents framing the impressive skeletonized movement. Used on the hour and minute hands, the peripheral minute track, and the openworked small seconds and power reserve subdials, the bright red details with white markings break the restrained monochrome appearance and give the Finissimo model a more sporty and relaxed spirit. If you look closely, you will see that the red minute track and subdials have a matte finish, while the hands are polished.

The skeletonization of the ultra-thin movement (BVL 128SK) is both modern and contemporary, and the darkened manually-wound movement parts give the caliber a stern industrial look. The intricate network of bridges at the front and back supports the fascinating mechanics, animated by the balance wheel at the "4 o'clock" position and the small seconds hand at the "7 o'clock" position.

The manually-wound caliber BVL 128SK, developed, manufactured, and assembled in-house, measures 36 mm and is only 2.35 mm thick. At Bvlgari, the concept of ultra-thin movements never compromises efficiency or accuracy. The movement operates at a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour and provides a reliable 65-hour power reserve.
The Bvlgari Octo Finissimo Skeleton Red is a limited edition of 180 pieces and is priced at 25,700 euros (including tax).
