Of course, there are exceptions, but in our experience, almost every watch enthusiast eventually succumbs to the allure of luxury watch brands.
You may start your watch collecting journey with affordable Seikos and Timex, but sooner or later you’ll find yourself yearning for a Rolex or Omega. It's okay, we've been there too. We understand that the pursuit of luxury watches can be daunting because luxury watches are expensive. But they don't necessarily have to be... or at least they don't have to be as costly as you think. To help you navigate the plethora of expensive watches, we've selected the best affordable watches from luxury brands.
How We Chose
While typical luxury watches cost many thousands of dollars, not all elite watches require such an investment. After all, every luxury watch brand should have its entry point. That is, the watches that are priced lower than the rest. These are the watches we will discuss in this guide. We found the most affordable men's watches from several of our favorite luxury brands, with prices ranging from a thousand to 20 thousand dollars. And while some of the watches featured below may not match your definition of "cheap," they are all accessible compared to their peers.
TAG Heuer Formula 1

Although not a chronograph, these TAG watches feature a racing stripe and are inspired by automotive motifs.
After TAG acquired Heuer in the 1980s, the newly formed TAG Heuer burst onto the modern watch scene with its blockbuster Formula 1 quartz watches, which became defining for the brand in the 80s and 90s. Although the brand is no longer a trendsetter today, TAG still produces motorsport-inspired Formula 1 quartz watches in a diver style, perfect for everyday use and a very accessible option for getting acquainted with one of the most recognizable names in the luxury watch industry.

Tudor 1926

The simple three-hand 1926 model with automatic winding from this Rolex subsidiary is surprisingly affordable at under 2 thousand dollars.
As the younger sibling of Rolex, Tudor is known for offering some of its more hard-to-get models, like the Daytona-inspired Black Bay Chrono, the GMT-Master-derived Black Bay GMT, and the Explorer II homage Black Bay Pro, at a lower price. But for its cheapest watches, Tudor chose a much more original path by releasing the 1926 model. This simple three-hand model is available in a wide range of colors and configurations, but all boast an automatic movement, applied indices, and a textured dial - all while belonging to the Rolex family for less than $2K.

- Water resistance: 100 m

Grand Seiko SBGX

GS watches arguably have the most beautiful dials in the world, and these watches are equipped with a highly accurate quartz movement.
As an independent luxury division of Seiko, Grand Seiko produces watches at the highest level to distinguish itself from its budget parent. As a result, GS does not offer watches priced below $2,000. The cheapest watches from the Japanese watch company are the SBGX series from the Heritage collection, namely SBGX259, SBGX261, and SBGX263. All three models of classic Grand Seiko watches are crafted with a Zaratsu-polished case and equipped with the proprietary HAQ 9F movement with an accuracy of up to 10 seconds per year.

Cartier Ronde Must de Cartier

The quartz version of Cartier's vintage dress watch retains all the brand's classic features.
While sporty watches from Rolex, Omega, and Breitling command the most admiration, Cartier should not be underestimated. The king of dress watches holds the second place in worldwide sales among Swiss watch brands after Rolex, and you can join its ranks with these 36-mm dress watches from Cartier with a quartz movement. And while we respect your choice, it is worth noting that for an additional $120, you can get a version of a true horological icon with a quartz movement - the Cartier Tank Must.

Omega De Ville Prestige Co-Axial Chronometer

Omega watches can be quite expensive, but these De Ville Prestige are a famous coaxial chronometer at an affordable price.
If you were dreaming of a Seamaster or Speedmaster and hoping to find them here... well, you're out of luck. But don't shelve your wallet just yet because Omega still offers a lot of value at this price. These watches with a coaxial chronometer and an in-house automatic movement are the most prestigious and interesting representative of Omega's De Ville dress watch line for this money. The hands and indices are thermally coated.

Breitling Endurance Pro

The quartz chronograph Breitling stands out with its sporty aesthetics and necessary versatility.
Quartz movements are not quite the norm when it comes to affordable luxury watches, but you can be sure that the battery-powered engine in these Breitling is far from simple. The COSC-certified thermocompensated SuperQuartz movement, powering these bold and big chronograph watches aimed at athletes, is built to perform under harsh conditions - as is the signature Breitlight case, which is 3.3 times lighter than titanium and highly resistant to scratches and corrosion.

IWC Pilot’s Watch Automatic 36

The medium-sized IWC Pilot’s Watch boasts striking aesthetics and is no less prestigious than its larger counterparts.
When you think of IWC, the first thing that comes to mind is likely the iconic Flieger-style pilot watches. Believe it or not, you can obtain them for cheaper than anything else in the Schaffhausen brand's catalog. Sure, it's not the famous "Big Pilot," but these medium-sized IWC Pilot’s Watches with a vibrant blue dial and classic Type A layout offer as much style and prestige as their larger siblings.

Panerai Radiomir Base Logo

The iconic diver from Panerai stands out with its 45-mm case.
If you're looking for something with significant wrist presence, Panerai is unparalleled in this regard. And despite the Italian brand's expensive and exclusive reputation, you don't have to pay top dollar for it. The most basic version of Panerai's vintage Radiomir line, the Base Logo, still offers classic Panerai style elements with a 45-mm polished stainless steel case and dynamic lume on the hands and indices against a matte black dial.

- Water resistance: 100 m

Rolex Oyster Perpetual 34

These affordable Rolex watches are a great option for those wanting to get to know the brand.
The simplest watches made by Rolex are the Oyster Perpetual. This is the "Crown" reduced to the essentials, with an Oyster case, an Oyster bracelet, and a Perpetual movement without a date. The watches are available in a variety of colors and sizes, including 36-mm and 41-mm options for men, but the cheapest way to get your foot in the door at Rolex is to choose the 34-mm version. Rolex markets them as women's watches, but 34 mm has historically been in unisex territory (there are many vintage 34 men's watches from Rolex) and will wear slightly larger than expected due to the Oyster case.

Zenith ELITE Classic

These Zenith ELITE Classic watches, equipped with the famous El Primero movement, feature a beautiful sunray dial.
Zenith is best known for its El Primero movement, one of the first automatic chronographs with a history of over 50 years. And while Zenith pays a hefty price for watches with the El Primero movement, you can begin your acquaintance with this brand beloved by enthusiasts for less money by exploring its ELITE line. These stunning dress watches are still equipped with an in-house automatic movement with a 50-hour power reserve, and their radial sunray dial is one of the brightest you can find at this price.

Blancpain Fifty Fathoms Bathyscape Cal. 1150

Blancpain's Bathyscape with 300 m water resistance is a five-figure version of one of the most iconic divers in history.
Typically, luxury watch brands do not offer watches from their most iconic lines at entry-level prices. But Blancpain is an exception. The oldest watch brand, Blancpain, invented modern diving watches in 1953, releasing the original Fifty Fathoms, and today you can purchase a version of these watches for less than anything else from the brand. While the most iconic version of the modern Fifty Fathoms costs around 15 thousand dollars, this reduced Bathyscape model in stainless steel, equipped with the ultra-thin Cal. 1150 movement, can be purchased for less than five thousand dollars.

Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Automatic

You can acquire some of the most technically advanced watches in the world - JLC Polaris.
JLC is often called the watchmaker's watchmaker because this brand possesses unmatched technical prowess in complications and has a long history of creating movements for other prestigious brands, including, at one time, each of the big three: Patek Philippe, Audemars Piguet, and Vacheron Constantin. But JLC also produces its own stunning watches, and the most affordable of them are the killer Polaris Automatic. This sporty model boasts a double crown with an internal rotating bezel, a date indicator, and an exhibition case back, allowing you to admire the brand's craftsmanship.

Vacheron Constantin Fiftysix Self-Winding

The Fiftysix model from VC, with its mid-century style, features a 22-karat gold rotor, an exhibition case back, and plenty of class.
If your goal is to join the holy trinity of Swiss watchmaking while spending as little as possible, these watches are for you. Vacheron rounds out the top three by offering magnificent stainless steel dress watches at a comparatively low price. The Fiftysix model is inspired by Vacheron's watches released in the same year, so naturally, it is filled with mid-century style. But at the same time, it has plenty of class: the case is only 9.6 mm thick, the alligator leather strap, and a massive 22-karat gold rotor visible through the sapphire case back.
- Case size: 40 mm
- Water resistance: 30 m
- Movement: Automatic
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak Self-Winding 34mm

At a price of 25 thousand dollars, these Royal Oak are the cheapest way to acquire one of the most iconic watches in the world, believe it or not.
Blancpain is not the only exception when it comes to offering their most iconic watches as an entry-level model. But given that variations of the Royal Oak are practically all AP produces these days, this should not be too surprising. While smaller quartz models can be bought for less, we consider these 34-mm automatic Royal Oak in stainless steel the most affordable option for men, and it is the cheapest way to acquire one of the most recognizable watch models ever created.
- Case size: 34 mm
- Water resistance: 50 m

Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167A

Endlessly stylish Aquanaut is the cheaper sibling of the expensive Nautilus and the most affordable Patek you can find.
If you consider market value, the Aquanaut cannot possibly be the most affordable Patek - not with how they sell on the pre-owned market. But according to MSRP, this dive-ready sibling of the famous Nautilus is as cheap as Patek gets. With impeccable finishing on the stainless steel case, grenade-patterned dial, and a robust "Tropical" composite strap, the Aquanaut, born in the '90s, is quickly becoming an icon in its own right. We would advise buying them while they are still affordable, but I'm afraid it's already too late.
